I can't believe it, my Maverick has shipped! No idea when it's going to arrive at the dealer (mid-Feb?) but I want to be prepared.

I'm looking at:

  • McGard Tailgate Lock $29 (so no one steels the tailgate. Might be a big truck problem, but it's a cheap part so why not)

  • Tint the front windows at a local shop

  • Paint/Wrap the front grill bar to match the body color

Did I miss anything?
No safe for the back seat?

Do the backup LEDs have really poor light output? If so I'm doubly screwed because I have the Black Appearance Package where the taillights are tinted lol
The lights are adequate and probably better than most. It's just a standard mod I do to any truck I own. No secret that LEDs are brighter than standards, and an inexpensive upgrade, so ya, I would do that if I were you. Also, kudos to Ford, for the oversize rear lighting pods. Same size as the F-150 I believe. I want to be seen from behind and the size of the Maverick's are big and they fit the design of the truck. I've been behind some of the newer vehicles with slit-like rear lights in the fog and could barely see them. Form over function . . . dangerous in that scenario.

I thought about the assist, but others said that tailgate was light enough so it wasn't needed. Do you have one? How do you like it?
I think it’s a critical upgrade. The tailgate is light but is also at toddler head level and I like to open it and walk away or have other shit in my hands and can’t hold it. Its a small price for convenience.
This is exactly why I wanted the tailgate assist - to keep my little grandson (who LOVES the Maverick) from bonking himself on the head with it. Well, that and the fact that my wife tends to let it "flop" down instead of easing it. (She's used to our Chevy full-size pickups that had the "assist" feature.)

Others have complained about this, but it has not been a big issue for me. Yes, the lights could be brighter, but you're not going to miss seeing the kid's tricycle because the lights are too dim... You might miss the Frisbee, though...

The LED's don't have resistance issues? I've seen people use LED turn signals and they flash 10 times a second compared to the normal 1 flash a second incandescent light.

I'd wait to order anything until you have the truck in your possession, but that's just me.

Will my lux came with a key and electric ,lock. The only things I added were mud flaps, interior floor mats and a rubber floor mat for the spray on bed liner (to rough for my old knees) and a Tri fold bed cover I bought the ford model and I am happy with it. If you want a cover go to a truck topper location to shop before you buy. The one I found too late had a display with about 10 different covers to shop and I would have selected a different cover

You are correct about the turn signal LED's and the flashing due to the resistance factor. LED bulbs have much less resistance than incandescent bulbs, so they flash more rapidly. If you were wanting to use LED's for turn signals you would want the Lasfit brand or similar. The Lasfit LED bulbs are more expensive because they have built-in resistors, whereas incandescent bulbs do not. Since I found the original turn signal bulbs to be quite bright enough, I chose not to replace them.

Since your backup lights do not flash on/off, you do not need a bulb with built-in resistors. Any LED made to fit your Maverick's backup lights will work fine.

By the way, I also replaced the over cab lights with LED's. Again, since they are not used as turn signals, I didn't need bulbs with built-in resistors. Much brighter than the OEMs

I would definitely get one. Annoying to have the tailgate slam down like it's on a 1940 Chevy PU. We have the technology and it's just a nice feeling to have the tailgate come down softly. An inexpensive add-on.

For exterior paint protection, you can do the ceramic coating thing, but very expensive to have it done and a lot of work to do yourself. I opted to use a ceramic spray from Turtle Wax. Inexpensive, easy to apply and if you put on two coats should last 6 months. Very happy with the results. Nothing sticks to it. Water beads up and whisks away when I drive. Color pops and I could use my door panel to shave if need be.

What's the deal with those? I think they look stupid. Do they really provide a lot of glare protection? I'd consider getting the entire windshield done with a clear ceramic film just for heat rejection.
They do look stupid. However, after 17 years in the Sonora Desert (both Arizona USA and Sonora MEX sides), I can confidently respond that they do help. I started applying that on my vehicles around 2007 (after holding out that first year because they look stupid) and can attest that they make a difference. And yes, I've also used dash covers and windshield shades (for parking)... You can imagine just how the strong the sun is here day in and day out.
