I picked up a Motorola MA1 for easy Android Auto.

I attached it to a USB 3.0 Adapter 90 Degree adapter to make the install clean and also fully removable instead of sticking it directly to the Mav.

It gets the job done!

can you still charge the phone plugging in the USB C port inside the car? Would it cause any issue with connecting to car play? or do you need to charge it wirelessly?

I actually have a usb-c thumb drive in that slot for music. It just wasn't connected in the picture.
I did it this way so if I need faster charging, I just remove the MA1 and hardwire the phone.

But to answer your question, I have not tried having the phone wires with the MA1 also connected. I can try and see if it causes confusion!

The MA1 was out of stock for a while so I tried a knockoff adapter and it dropped... a lot.
So far, this one has been pretty darn solid.

Why not just velcro it to the underside and get it out of the way?
Mainly because I didn't want to commit to sticky stuff in my mav haha :)

I installed one in my 2022 Camry (Maverick delivery this week) for Android Auto. Works great, but does take a little longer to to sinc when starting the car. Wish I'd gotten one months ago.

Only install hiccup was the bad instructions for inital Bluetooth pairing with phone (Probably operator error). Instructions said to unplug normal cord from usb to phone and then quickly plug in the Motorola to the same port. Never worked for me. Luckily, I discovered the small Bluetooth button on the Motorola and synced it the old fashion way.

When you plug your phone in to charge via one of those ports wired AA takes over. I found it easier to just use wired AA because of this.

Also, if I don't have my phone tethered, I tend to try and do stupid things like text and drive

Did a similar thing but i used a command strip type thing to mount the unit under the little cubby thing there just in front of the light. It looks a little cleaner, puts it out of the way, and protects it from the direct sun.

I had to do pretty much the same. Provided adhesive square would not bond with the cars plastic trim. Used some Gorilla double sided clear tape and it's holding great.

I love my Motorola MA1. I ordered it right after my Maverick was built. So I'd have it when my Maverick arrived. Paid quite a bit for it because at the time they weren't available anywhere except eBay. But I did double sided sticky tape it under the dash. Don't want it to block the storage cubby underneath.

When I plug my Pixel 6 pro into the USBC, nothing changes on the screen. Appears that it still using the wireless adapter. Same when I unplug it.

I mounted mine with Velcro so it can be removed if needed.

I still like this method. I originally got the 90 degree turndown with the thought of minimizing the bend... then I bent it more hah.

I just ordered a 90 usb, I got the one with the attached cable so I dont bend the actual MA1 cable. It's also lower profile. I dont have the Mav yet, not sure how far back the bottom plastic goes to attach the device to. I might just toss it in the back tray or behind after making the bend.

Yea, I like the low profile and cable to bend so I dont risk knocking it when I put stuff in the storage locations.
