If you look up at Loneum's post I don't think 5 would fit unless you really did some squeezing. I picked up the cheap Walmart tailgate pad just to see how it would fit and it was much wider than the tailgate.

I pieced this 3 bike solution together with scrap wood, joist hangers, tie down anchors, and gear ties.
I already had made a cross piece for the back slot as a "grocery area" type divider and just built out the rest from there.
It's super quick to assemble/disassemble since the boards just sit...
I actually have a usb-c thumb drive in that slot for music. It just wasn't connected in the picture.
I did it this way so if I need faster charging, I just remove the MA1 and hardwire the phone.
But to answer your question, I have not tried having the phone wires with the MA1 also connected...
I picked up a Motorola MA1 for easy Android Auto.
I attached it to a USB 3.0 Adapter 90 Degree adapter to make the install clean and also fully removable instead of sticking it directly to the Mav.
It gets the job done!
