Can't get a Bluetooth transmitter to pair with my XL

I want to use my iPod classic in the Maverick, but I can't get any bluetooth transmitters to pair. I have tried 3, some just spin forever, some show up in the list but then tell me they are unable to pair. So I need a brand or model number of a bluetooth transmitter that for sure works, or I need a way to work around this pairing problem. Any help would be appreciated!

Seem to hazily recall part of a video from months and months ago on the audio system which mentioned in passing that iPods are not compatible with the internal Maverick Bluetooth thingamabobby.

Tried that first, no luck.

The iPod is basically irrelevant, the bluetooth has a 3.5mm headphone jack as the input so it could be anything.
