I know my dealer likes to put that flashing third brake light as a must get. Obviously at a ridicules inflated cost. Could be a help not sure tho.
Just got rear ended 6 weeks in my F 150 by a older woman who just got out of the hospital for a stroke. Still had the iv stub in her arm. Got a new bumper and hitch out of it. Really felt bad that she had no family to help her. Her car was totaled too.

Glad you're ok and that it was just minor damage!

I guess there are different kinds of drivers. Some are easily distracted by passengers, phones, etc. They seem to treat driving as something that is easy, casual.

Personally, I'm the type of guy that treats driving as a deadly serious activity. I prefer to not hold conversations while driving, won't touch my phone or eat while driving, will pull over into a parking lot if I absolutely must actually touch the phone, I'm hyper-vigilant about scanning mirrors/gauges/road, always looking for a defensive driving exit path, always signal, etc.

It's a tradeoff. I haven't been the cause of any wrecks, but I can't do long drives, as the mental effort is eventually taxing.
This^ I ride motorcycles therefor I'm invisible

This morning I was about 6 cars back from a stopped bus on a two lane double yellow road. Some asshat in an orange suv even further back guns it to pass everyone daring any oncoming traffic to hit him while also passing a stopped bus. Of course the bus finished offloading before he could pass the dozen or so cars so now he has to gun it even more. Idiots. I hate people. Thankfully nobody was killed by this moron that lives in my area.

I don't know what he was doing. I clipped the video because it was initially too big. But he had been stopped a good distance behind me. Then he just started rolling along. It does look something like a texting or phone distraction. I do know he was on his way to the VA, as that's where I was going, and I saw his Toyota there. Funny thing, I saw him a few miles away after I had left.
Ohhh god. I did this once as a teen driver, long, long ago before cell phones were a thing. (Think late 80's cell phones that only could be used in your car, typically only owned by lawyers and such.) I had dropped something on the floor of my mom's Camry, reached to get it, not realizing I had taken my foot off the brake until I felt the tap of my front bumper on someone's rear bumper. No damage to either vehicle, but I was extremely apologetic to the guy in front of me who totally overreacted and came blazing out of his car screaming his head off. Lesson learned, and I still feel bad about it. Stuff happens.

Three years ago, I'd had my new Hyundai Tucson for about 2 months and some idiot rear-ended me in stop-and-go road construction traffic. Damage, about $1500. Well, today, after almost six months of owning my Maverick the same damned thing happened again. Fortunately, the only damage this time was white Toyota paint to my trailer hitch. I don't understand why people can't pay attention. (Audio removed due to some language.)

I see you are in Florida. I hear car collisions are much more frequent there, but maybe that statistic is mainly for the large cities. Not sure. I know when I visited Orlando, I saw tons of collision lawyer signs everywhere.

The biggest problem are the phones. People, especially young people, cannot seem to stay off of them while driving. It's mostly the texting. I wish people would just cut it out. Their text message is not more important than someone's life and property. They need to grow up.
This is what bothers me as my daughter is a new driver. I tell her and I tell her again to stay off her phone while she’s the driver. I desperately hope she’s listening to me.

Hate to say it but that's not a 4Runner. It's a first-gen Toyota Sequoia.

glad it was very low speed at least. was that guy on his phone or something?
I bet he was on his phone looking at the mavericktruckclub.com website trying to guess when his maverick would be built so he can replace his toyota with a truck that gets better then 15 MPG.

I installed one of these, but a heavy duty rubber one, and I'm confident it will provide some degree of protection.
1) Older lady hit my trailer hitch ball at a stop sign, zero damage to my vehicle, $2,000 to her Lexus bumper.
2) 25+ lady on her phone, at a red light planted my trailer hitch thru her brand new Mercedies grill & punctured her radiator, I'm guessing $3 or $4 gran damage. Maverick Zero damage.
No sympathy! Tired of paying for other people's damage to the Maverick.
Both people hitting my trailer hitch admitted they were on their phones.

My problem is door dings in shopping centers...have a quote for $500 to repair/repaint both rear doors. Just Installed "Dawn Door Molding" , $148, highly recommend.

I have no towing plans but ordered a hitch on my (not yet built) Maverick so I can leave a big trailer ball on there. That is one way to deter tailgaters and creepers from hitting me.
