Dealer Canceled Order

Can the dealership just cancel a customer order? Order submitted Sep 15th with a time stamp of 6:00pm from ford, now how a voicemail from dealer saying order has been canceled (Order Bank now closed!). You can't order direct from Ford so you have to go through a dealer and they can just cancel your order, please tell me this can't happen..

They can, unfortunately, but it was a mistake to do so. They probably believe they aren't going to get an allocation for your order, but they should have waited until everything shakes out.

A dealer can always cancel an order… but why in the world would they? I’d be up there in their face demanding answers. Ford themselves don’t cancel orders, that’s all on the dealer.

Even if your order wasn’t even going to be fulfilled, what is the harm in keeping it in the system? It is a retail order, it doesn’t take up ”stock” from them. And, if you end up flaking, they are free to sell it.

Truly baffling that they’d cancel an order… it is only upside for them.

Probably not far off. A custom order on a popular model is a guaranteed sale if it arrives. What dealer in their right mind walks away from a guaranteed sale?

I guess you could call/chat with Ford directly to confirm the order was cancelled (you need order code and sales code). I hate to think like this but it is possible the dealer is unscrupulous and they are taking your order for themselves to sell above msrp. Just saying it seems possible anyway but dealers are pretty honest nowadays right? I really do think things are getting more trasparent but I try not to underestimate the chase for the dollar.

Fully intend to ask for answers, just wanted to educate myself before replying to the voicemail (First time ordering a vehicle). Hard to believe canceling an order is a thing, especially now the order banks are closed and Ford has no direct order options...

Yes, Time Stamped 6:00 PM the day the order banks opened. Was in the seat at 4:30..

Not sure if this is possible, but I would try to raise this issue with Ford. The dealer is essentially gaming the system in order to receive stock. Doesn't Ford punish this type of behavior? Frankly, I am not sure why I placed an order because it seems totally at the whim of the dealer what happens with it.

I call BS that they lack the allocation for your order if you placed it that early.

That's what I would want to know. If Ford confirmed it was not canceled I would be livid.
