Down payments are optional and set by the dealer

I know, The best ones(smarter ones) do not seem to be asking for down payments. If you do not pick it up they can sell it over MSRP if they wish.

Seems like there is no downside to asking for a down payment; it deters flaky or uncommitted people, which waste salespersons' time.

NOPE, not really! 1. How many dealers have sales people that you have to stand in line to see? answer=none. 2. smart dealers will be able to have a stock car which they can then sell at or over MSRP. How is that a downside for a dealer?

A dealer con not order a stock Maverick at this time. That is why FORD requires a drivers license not the dealer.

When the corvette C7 and C8 came out no dealer was selling at MSRP the dealers tacked on at least $10,000. How many C8 corvettes have you seen at a dealers lot?

The anxiety of slow manufacturing is rampant on this forum concerning the Maverick. If a dealer got one that the customer did not show up to purchase I am sure that dealer would be delighted. IF BY SOME REASON HE COULD NOT SELL IT ON HIS LOT. They have a network and it would get sold quickly.

Actually you have the wrong reasoning. Ford dings the dealership on their allotments if they do not sell to the person that ordered it. Hence the photocopy of drivers license. Keeps the salesman from having their friends and family ordering to fill their lot. Dealership OWNERS actually do want you to purchase it if you ordered it, that is if they want to stay in business for years.

My dealer just asked for a $500 deposit and name/address but no ID. (I reserved mine online though and never stepped foot into the dealer until the truck got there.)
