On a hybrid that doesn't even run all the time? 15k changes is my plan for my hybrid. 185k on my 2012 focus with 15k oil changes. I drive it pretty hard (the 2.0 DI is an underappreciated engine). It has perfect compression, oil analysis shows in tolerance at 18k (I got lazy last year) and it burns about 0.5oz every 1000 miles.

Maybe the turbo versions are more fragile?
If you want to keep your warranty in effect, you had better follow the factory recommendations. When I worked at a Subaru store a customer went 12,000 miles before changing oil because the oil company said it would go that far… the engine blew up! Then the owner sued, even though he didn’t follow factory recommendations of 6,000 miles. He lost.

Great review and I agree with everything you reported .... except the extended warranties. With the price of labor and parts these days, one visit to a dealer for even a small repair would almost make up for the extended warranty price and even surpass it. Especially with a new line of vehicle one would expect some hiccups in performance to appear.
Regarding the trade-in, the dealer is going to take advantage of the demand for used vehicles and make a big profit on yours. Important thing is that you're happy with your truck, I paid about $5k in ADM, but I knew how difficult it was to find the Maverick I wanted, so I took the bruise.
Very glad your search was successful. This is one great truck...enjoy!
The value of my trade-in was quite low, so the hit was actually pretty minimal. My gripe was mostly a matter of principle. Half the KBB trade-in value was irksome, but as you say the bruise was well worth it in the end.
And I would agree with your warranty assessment if it were just for this instance. But I've always had a policy (handed down from my dad...) of turning down extended warrantees, anytime they are offered, for anything. And as he observes, if you add together all those fees saved over forty+ years of countless vehicles and equipment....I'm WAY ahead at this point. Likely too far ahead to lose. I honestly can't think of a single instance where I've needed work done beyond the basic warranty on anything. One could certainly argue that's just dumb luck...but there it is.

Thank you. I do love the Maverick and I haven't seen such excitement over a vehicle since forever.
I would agree with your dad over the extended warranties. In most situations it is just cheaper to replace an item rather than go through the expense and effort of dealing with a warranty. I always turned them down. The exception in my opinion are the newer vehicles that are much more complex than the autos I had when I was younger. My friends and I were able repair those cars in our driveway. We didn't give it a second thought to adjusting the valves, replacing transmissions, or entire engines. Today's vehicles have so many computer controlled features that mechanics need be more like engineers and computer technicians. It's not unthinkable to have a $3,000 cost to repair. In my mind, that makes the extended warranty worthwhile.

How's that atomic orange treating you in person?
When I was young my Grandfather owned a tire store and I remember how they would mark tire sizes, etc. on the tires with orange markers...whenever I see orange cars/trucks I think of tire crayons...
