I’m sure this will take on a lot of critics, but seeing the details on the new Ford Bronco Raptor has cause me to ponder my decision to buy the Maverick. I have to start that my hart has always lead me to the early style Bronco. I unfortunately made the mistake of selling my 66 Bronco about 7 years ago. You might wonder why I made the error in judgement,. The reasoning behind it was I had to clear space in my two car garage for vehicles I use on a daily basis. The 66 had the 170 cubic inch motor, three on the tree, and a max speed of about 55 MPH🤗.

anyway when the new Bronco was released I wasn’t too impressed. It really didn’t represent what I had in mind, thus I with the Maverick.what would really add to my desire, If the new Raptor addition would come with a 7 speed manual. The down side for sure is cost, 70k is a huge chunk oof cash that I don’t know that I’m will to commit. That is assuming a person can find a dealer to seek one without a markup above MSRP.

just wondering what others think of the Bronco Raptor addition. I’m assuming those with a FWD or the Hybrid could not relate with this consideration do to their driving needs. This consideration is more geared to the owners that are modifying their Maverick to be more tilted to off highway driving conditions.

Im sure I will regret posting this, but it’s some I thought was worth asking.

Good luck getting your hands on one, and if you do, expect to pay $100k+. You need to be a current reservation holder for your name to even be put in the pot for a shot at one. I got an invite, but I’m not holding my breath.

Good read on some early challenges to building your Raptor.
That is a great article, in my humble opinion offering the two door would have hit it out of the park. The thing I really appreciated of the 66 was basically able to turn around on a dime. It somewhat looked like a clown car how tight it could turn. The 4 door would not be able to make these change. In the back country in Colorado locals know all too well about backing out of a trail that either gets to Extreme or too narrow to continue.

i don’t think I would ever have all 4’s in the air unless for the occasional tire rotation😆

thanks for that link

Can’t imagine cross shopping these two vehicles 🤔
1) It ain't gonna be $70k out the door

2) I am pretty baffled at how one goes from a maverick to a raptor bronco as these aren't even remotely in the same planet of need/type.

To sortof respond to the "hybrid owners will never understand thing"

I'd get it if like, you regretted not waiting for the rattler or maybe you bought a ranger and regretted not waiting for the bronco. But I will truly never understand going from budget unibody truck to a raptor.
My exact thoughts. The Maverick at best is a soft-roader, like a lifted Subaru Outback. The Bronco Raptor is basically a street-legal race vehicle without a cage.

If @Rodeoman74 wants a Bronco Raptor, I say go for it. But I'd consider it like daily-driving an F-350. Much more capability in certain parameters, but also much higher entry and operating costs. But if you can afford it, by all means, let us know how it is.

The title of this thread is click-bait-y as well.

I'm a Bronco guy too. I have 96 FSB that was used as our daily/tow/camper/beachmobile. It recently has some motor issues and is currently down. Which is one reason we went ahead with a Maverick order. We were going to get a Bronco but would have to save alot of money to get the one we want. We simply cannot afford a $650 payment for 6 years and I dont want a Bronco without a manual and lockers. Plus we need a 4 door. As a Bronco guy Im sure you know those combos just dont work for much less than $50k. That being said I am keeping the idea in the back of my head of using the equity and hopefull future value of our Maverick to buy a Bronco when they become more available. Hopefully that happens before they drop the 7spd.

Man lots of Bronco hate on this page. Im one of the lucky few to have both the Maverick hybrid and Bronco 2.3. Its not even close to a hard decision. The Bronco is 10x better then the Maverick in almost every category.

Man, that is a nice ride. Yeah, this post wasn’t meant to offend anyone. I think the Maverick is great and meets a large demographic. Some buyers wanted a very inexpensive hybrid, FWD, and room to haul some stuff For 20k. Others like me live in place where 4x4 is almost a must (or AWD). The people like me will continue to add options to gain ground clearance , improve traction with all terrain, increase HP, lift for both look/function. I’m the guy that can just lift with spacers. I factor in things like rake ect to maintain the correct geometry. In summary 40k out the door anther 15k to get it where I want. That’s 55k and the Raptor is 70k…..that’s not too fare off to making sense. Note, the only way I would order a Raptor is if it had an option for a Manual. otherwise, the 2 door Black Dimond seems to be the fit and it is about the same cost of what I have spent currently. Now, I may have a 2 year wait, but I don’t have too big of concern With a 2022 Maverick in the garage.

You may as well plan for paying a $100k as you will NEVER see a raptor for msrp.

They are nearly the same size inside and have 4wd.
I typically look at the Bronco Sport after market parts, many are interchangeable with the Maverick.

I did call the dealer today and they said if I ordered and waited the cost would be MSRP, but if I if I wanted a current dealer allowance there would be a mark up. they thought a 24 month wait time. It would be interesting if they would lock in the price.
If anything really over the 70, I would be out. 100 seems crazy, but with inflation it might come faster than we think.

Good luck, considering how it's impossible to get a regular Bronco compared to even a Maverick I can't imagine these are going to be sold without some insane ADM from dealers. I've read that some Broncos have sold for $100k over MSRP and if you order a Bronco from the factory you're lucky to get it within a year.
Yep saw a yellow bronco for 88k almost 38 k over the tag price.
