I purchased the McGuard/Ford Tailgate Lock after reading how easy it is to just walk away with the tailgate if it's down.
What I didn't realize is that the Maverick is special, there is a "safety" plate that prevents the tailgate from being removed. That plate is removed with a star bit.
The lock REQUIRES this plate be removed. So then you need to ask yourself. What's more secure against a casual theft;
The plate with a star bit or a low quality hose clamp and an odd lock. Honestly, I don't think they're any different.
Now I have to sell this
