Was at the license bureau paying the sales tax and getting the new plates today. Went to leave and the rascal would not come out of Park. I was on a slight incline but foot on the brake and it wouldn't shift. I shut off the engine, waited a moment and restarted, everything worked as designed. Thins that make you go Hmmmmm.........?

Make sure you apply the brake before putting it in gear.

If you park on a significant incline. Make sure you set your park brake before you put the shifter in park an release the brake pedal. Your transmission park pawl will thank you. Upon the next time you drive it, first press brake - hard - then shift to R or D before you finally release the park brake.

Thanks for the tip. I will be sure to do so.

If you happen to pull on the steering wheel after putting it in park, you might lock the wheel. When you try to move it out of park the shift dial won’t move because column is locked. Turn ignition off and back on while trying to move the steering wheel… that usually frees it up for me.

Currently my Ford Maverick hybrid is stuck in park. I can get the truck to start but that's it! At one point the battery symbol came on so I put it on the trickle charger. The steering wheel turns freely I'm on level ground. My house battery was replaced under warranty about 16 months ago and I currently have 70,000 mi on the truck. Is there anyone out there that can help me out? Thanks

It will also tell me to press the brake to start even though I'm already pressing it and have pressed it hard multiple times. Occasionally well tell me the crash avoidance system is not on as well. Once again my battery symbol is on and it didn't start this time!

If you're on an incline, the truck will set the electric Park brake automatically. Sometimes, putting your foot on brake pedal while manually releasing the parking brake switch will help, when it feels like it's not in D.

Park brake is just like the old-school console-mounted park brake levers. Pulling up sets it. Down releases it.

Finally got it out of park by setting the transmission to the neutral tow mode and then to drive. It's a temporary fix as it goes back into park after you drive it and turn it off. Dealership has it now and will determine the proper repair.

Would you be able to advise what the resolution was to this issue? Had it crop up today.

Cheers.

My hybrid does that just sitting in the garage on a flat surface. Dealer where I purchased it told me to take it to another dealership. Second dealership didn't know what to do. When I start it a second time it has always worked fine. I have a fear it will let me down at the worst time.

Happened again to me, found my way out after a few attempts, but it shoudn't require some secret sequencing of ignition, braking, touch pressure on the gear shift, etc.
