Is the 4K rear spring rate higher or the same as 2K?

The 4k package has never stated that it has different rear suspension from 2k. The best way to answer this is to look up the rear spring part numbers. If one of the springs is specific to the 4K package, that will pretty much answer your question.

As I look up rear spring part numbers online, everything I see shows that there are 3 rear springs available for AWD 2025+ Mavericks: standard, Tremor and Lobo. For '22-'24, standard and Tremor are available.

There are no 4K-specific rear springs listed for any model year Maverick, so it seems that it has the standard AWD rear springs.

4K tow is:
A larger radiator, transmission cooler,
And a slightly lower final drive ratio.
Nothing more.

Question…..So technically, the (2024) 2K EB could tow the same as the 4K EB for at least; one mile, on flat land, on a cool day? Beyond that; Hills and Hot weather, would eventually take it’s toll on the 2K?
Am I way off on my Hypothetical statement?

Cooling and gearing are the differences between the two. Transmission temperature is what I would be most concerned about.

There was a discussion of 8F35 transmission temps in a build thread where a guy was fitting a Hayden aftermarket transmission cooler to his "2K" EB Mav, and his transmission temperatures were much higher than my 4K Mav before install. Loaded down (not towing) and running steep passes in the Rockies, I've not seen my transmission temperature higher than 206 degrees, and his everyday temperatures were 210+ prior to the cooler installation.

That thread is here: https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...n-non-4k-tow-awd-maverick.73121/#post-1207441

I was originally on the hunt for a 4K tow optioned hybrid Mav for my small fishing boat (~3K) or the occasionally borrowed/rented trailer, but couldn't find one in stock nearby. When the service manager explained the actual drivetrain differences (cooling upgrades, not springs or hitch), I quickly dropped that from my must-have list.

I am confident I could tow up to 4k locally without issue - particularly given the mild west coast climate up here on Vancouver island - and a brake controller is an easy enough add. I would certainly adjust that if I needed to regularly haul in the mountains again, but the Hybrid Mav is probably not the right truck for that in any case.

I’ve seen people go back and forth about this on threads and I personally wouldn’t think twice about towing something over weight limit of my 2k if it was for short stints. That being said though I have the Fx4 package which comes with a majority of the 4K components minus the tranny cooler.

Good luck arguing that with ICBC. If you are overweight and get into an accident I doubt you will be covered for any losses you incur (Third Party claims exempted).

Technically you are not wrong, however when it comes to little utility trailers bound for the dump, or light watercraft, the average adjustor or investigator can't tell the difference between 2k and 3k on the side of the road. We all assume risk in our daily life, and there are those that are are physically dangerous to us or others, and those that are merely administrative. Based on my own risk tolerance and experience in the subject area, I'm quite confident I'm not creating an undue risk to the public, and I'm willing to occasionally assume the personal risk to my truck and pocketbook.

YMMV

I suppose. Your FX4 package came with the hitch, radiator and fan, anyway, which is 3 out of 7 of the 4K components. Granted, the fan and radiator are two of the most difficult to upgrade in the aftermarket:
  • Heavy duty fan
  • Increased capacity radiator
  • Transmission cooler
  • Trailer brake controller
  • Hitch
  • 7-pin connection
  • Lower gearing (final drive ratio)

The transmission cooler is the most important component of the 4K package, IMO, but you can add one of those too.
