My wife bought a Fairmont while I was out of town. Engine fell apart after four months. POS
My neighbor bought a Fairmont. Took it on a vacation trip. Came back in a Chevelle.
He swore he’d never buy a Ford again.
That summer he bought a 1971 Mach one, sold the Chevelle and had the Stang for years.

Your friend apparently had all or nothing brand affiliation.
Bad experience with one car doesn't usually mean the entire brand is bad.

Ford had a few "problems" e.g. the Pinto, but that was just poor decision making by Lee Iacocca who was also around for development of the Mustang. Same guy, different results.

Actually even in the Pinto, the Pinto wagon with that little V6 was a great car that didn't have the "explodamatic fuel tank".

Any manufacturer can produce both good cars and bad ones, except maybe for Yugo..
