I'm thinking about removing the black tape between the windows myself. Now, if I could just find me some Crager mags and an 8 track for the Maverick!
While not an 8 track, I still have one of the highly desirable Pioneer Supertuner KP-500 Cassette players in my garage!

Getting that picture perfect reflection below it really highlights the unit.
I can't wait to see the pic once you install it.... Will that be in the Mav or a '79 Pinto ? 😉

BTW - Similar units are selling on fleabay for ~ $400. Be sure to keep your garage locked!

I think it's odd to undo what professional designers have given a considerable amount of time and thought to. The pillars are black to unify the windows and create a single horizontal element that suggests movement. Taking the black away creates a vertical "stop," and what was once a single element becomes two, adding clutter to a wonderfully clean design.

I admit I was very aggravated when they added the hood stripes to the BAP after I had placed my order. I was ready to take them off as soon as I got it, but after living with them, I appreciate how they (and the black roof) differentiate the BAP from the regular trim. It doesn't hurt that having racing stripes on my car makes me feel 16 again, either! :p
Spoken like a true designer.

I pulled it out of a 64 Riviera in the 90's. The pic is not mine, just shows what it looks like. My garage is always locked and alarmed. And looked after by a crazy Malinois!

if you want to look like you bought an XL- remove the vinyl. The painted pillars are reserved for the lowest trim and fleet purchases.
I will do that even though it says XLT on the Fender Emblyand Bed Side. Don't see to many XL that look like it and I think it looks A LOT better. Thank you for your opinion

As a "hot rodder" in the 60's-70's many of us removed our hubcaps in favor of Crager mags or something similar. These professional designers are restricted by money, money and less money. The boss wants the cheapest thing they can get in most cases. Hubcaps in the 60's and 70's were anywhere from $1.00 to $15.00. Mag wheels looked way better, but we paid $40-$46 (each) for them! Tires, air shocks, 8-track players, we modified anything we could to be different, did not want to be the "status quo". This guy was the best in his time:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Barris_(auto_customizer)

There are many modern day hot rod (custom) designers. They are VERY good at what they do!

I'm thinking about removing the black tape between the windows myself. Now, if I could just find me some Crager mags and an 8 track for the Maverick!

  • Chip Foose (Foose Design): Famous for award-winning designs and his TV show Overhaulin', blending classic lines with modern flair.
  • Dave Kindig (Kindig-It Design): Known for high-end, custom-built vehicles featured on Bitchin' Rides, emphasizing unique details.
  • Troy Trepanier (Rad Rides by Troy): A master of extreme, high-performance custom builds that push the boundaries.
  • Rob Ida (Rob Ida Concepts): A second-generation builder known for cutting-edge customs, including a modern take on the Tucker.
  • Steve Strope (Pure Vision Design): Specializes in unique muscle cars and street machines, known for bold style and performance.
  • Mark Stielow: Famous for functional, high-performance builds like the "QuadraDuece".
Best of luck to you. That is what makes all those guys you mentioned above. They ALL HAVE THEIR OWN STYLE. That is what makes them all unique so do what you like and forget every one else's opinion.

Wow are you a Automotive Engineer? How many people on this site have changed neumorus things on the Maverick that Engineer's have designed. What makes it unique is that it's my truck and my style and I like it regardless of what some engineer does. There is a Custom Car Show on TV called UNIQUE WHIPS, it's about everyone's own style. Thank you

Here's a thought. The back gives the appearance of uninterrupted window front to back. I honestly like that look better, but if you're happy with your modification, that's all that matters. That you shared this will no doubt inspire others who like the look. (y)
Hey, THANK YOU for supporting me. Yes it's my style and I like it. Appreciate it someone positive

Thanks for sharing, I see why you did it, but I personally prefer the black. I do like the amber reflectors in the fender vents, do they light up, and did you make them yourself?
Yes they light up and flash with the turn signal. I bought the Amber Lenses for ETSY.

Previously I saw someone else remove and polish the orange peel underneath.
I thought I liked it.

But, I also like the 'flow' of the dark tinted side windows with black pillar.

I could go either way.
If it were $250 savings to not have them wrapped, I could find a better use for that $...
But, its done and there. So I'll use it for some extra paint protection. :D

In the second paragraph of your post you ask "What's everyone's opinion?" I gave you my opinion, and an educated analysis of why I thought it was a bad idea. Also, an engineer and a designer are different things. I am a retired designer, and have 40 years experience making judgement calls on how things should look. If you only want opinions that reinforce your choices, please be more specific.

Happy 2026 Mdmac,
I can see how anyone could easily prefer either. I wouldn’t have been aware of the option if you hadn‘t taken the time to share your post with pictures, Thank You.
Kind Regards,
Larry
