Hello, well I did it today. I removed the Black Overlays between the B & C Pillars today and I like the look. I saw something awhile back about the pillars being painted factory color so I said why not. It was a little work getting it all removed and I used a heat gun. Just a little cleaning and some ceramic wax and it looks great.
Thanks for your post.
Not needing to remove the pillar covers was why I bought a 25 XL...
Well that and the better price and the "harder to steal" keyed ignition and most of the XLT features when the 4K tow package is added to the Hybrid AWD and.... but I digress.
I agree - It looks better to me as well.

Enjoy your trucklett.

I think it's odd to undo what professional designers have given a considerable amount of time and thought to. The pillars are black to unify the windows and create a single horizontal element that suggests movement. Taking the black away creates a vertical "stop," and what was once a single element becomes two, adding clutter to a wonderfully clean design.

I admit I was very aggravated when they added the hood stripes to the BAP after I had placed my order. I was ready to take them off as soon as I got it, but after living with them, I appreciate how they (and the black roof) differentiate the BAP from the regular trim. It doesn't hurt that having racing stripes on my car makes me feel 16 again, either! :p
As a "hot rodder" in the 60's-70's many of us removed our hubcaps in favor of Crager mags or something similar. These professional designers are restricted by money, money and less money. The boss wants the cheapest thing they can get in most cases. Hubcaps in the 60's and 70's were anywhere from $1.00 to $15.00. Mag wheels looked way better, but we paid $40-$46 (each) for them! Tires, air shocks, 8-track players, we modified anything we could to be different, did not want to be the "status quo". This guy was the best in his time:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Barris_(auto_customizer)

There are many modern day hot rod (custom) designers. They are VERY good at what they do!

I'm thinking about removing the black tape between the windows myself. Now, if I could just find me some Crager mags and an 8 track for the Maverick!

I like it.

But to be fair I didn't know what my truck looked like for some time after I took delivery: I picked the truck up after hours in the dark, and it's dark when I drive to work and come home.

The first time I actually saw it was when I explained to the boss I had no idea what my new truck looked like and she made me show it to her. LMAO

Thinking more about your mod... I really like it, especially since you found a way to make the truck more "yours" without adding anything to it. The price was certainly right. :)

I also disliked the stripes at first, but now I really like them.

I think it looks amazing with the black removed.
I'm really starting to get tired of this vehicle design cue of matte black trying to make the B-pillars dissappear into the glass tint.

Its fine for the "4 door coupe" styling, but designers let's stop this garbage in trucks - along with this ridiculous overcompensation on anything bigger than half ton trucks where grills are the size of a wrought iron gate into Draculas castle

I like the factory color better than the black in my opinion. What's everyone's opinion?

It's interesting to see the difference of opinions on this. I have a Lariat and my initial impression was that I didn't care for this but also didn't realize it was an add on as part of the higher trim. I don't care for mine because that material seems to prone to fingerprints that end up showing up kind of white which makes it look like cheap plastic.

Weirdly, now that I know it's an add on to a higher trim level I somehow feel conflicted about removing it.
