Makes you wonder why they just don't lower the price to begin with, since by now most people should know to call and cancel, or wait for the discounted offer. - I can't see us paying the full rate on two vehicles in the house, not worth it when I can stream Amazon Music, or other sources for no additional cost.
because many will just pay the full price. Years ago I had a coworker who had a business Comcast internet connection at home, because we were doing night shift systems administration, and he needed the reliability. He took advantage of their customer retention team and maintained a better monthly price by calling up and threatening to cancel eveey year.

You can actually use this trick with many companies, provided they have a customer retention team or program of some kind. Most people do not avail themselves of it though, because it takes a little time and effort on a regular, though relatively infrequent, basis

Companies that run programs like this, bank on that low bar being just high enough that the majority of customers won’t bother, and of the minority who do, most of them were likely legitimately trying to cancel anyway

they likely could just offer a lower price for everyone, but some bean counter did the math and decided that having fewer customers where most of them pay a higher price, works out to bigger margins in the end than having more customers all paying a slightly lower price. Plus it helps maintain their desired image of providing a “premium” experience

not saying that they did all the math correctly, but, that’s why they don’t lower the price in general even though they absolutely could and still turn a solid profit

Wife WANTED Sirius to be transfered to new truck so I jumped on it the day the free 3 months was expiring. That was about a month ago. Yesterday got an offer in the mail from Sirius, "your Maverick is not the same without Sirius. Renew it now to get 12 months for $5/month."
Always terminate your subscriptions such as sirius, newspapers etc a week or so before they are to renew. They almost always come back with a very good rate, and not their normal high rates they try to hook you on at renewal time. Make sure to calender it and if possible cancel automatic renewal. Good luck.

Besides my maverik truck, I have Bluetooth in my 2 houses, my motorcycle helmet, my boat, and my girlfriends car. The best option for me was Spotify. One subscription for all.

Choices are good, agreed. Understanding the field of choices available is also useful. Not all streaming options are equal

I mainly use Plex because I run the server, I own all of the media I stream to myself, the same media I was already collecting over the years anyway. And I pay no subscription fee. If anything ever happens to that, I’ll just switch to Navidrome or Jellyfin

Sirius is pretty cool but I don’t use it enough to justify the subscription. Same with basically every other cloud streaming service. I don’t like paying for things I can’t own.

Most of my trips are 25 minutes or less. Not worth it to pay for Sirius. The thing I don't like about Sirius is they play a lot of the "B" side or songs that didn't make it below 70 on the top 100. They also talk more than they used to.
I have a couple of USB drives with music that I can listen to or connect my MP3 player.
I know, OLD SCHOOL.

Used to listen to music all the time. Can't say how many car stereo systems I've upgraded over the years but I used to do it on almost every vehicle. Since retiring 10+ years ago (giving up the 67 mile round trip commute) I don't drive nearly as much. Over that time my music listening time has dwindled to near zero. Can't say why for sure but I appreciate the quiet much more these days and even songs I used to love become annoying very quickly. It has the same effect as feedback noise and I find myself turning whatever device I'm using off within minutes of turning it on.

Got the aforementioned $5/month offer in the mail the other day and realized I never even tried Sirius in the Maverick. Tried the radio, found it works fine with my music jump drive, and did set up FM station presets a few weeks after I got the truck but have not used it since.

Not worried but wondering if anyone else is seeing this trend as they get older, or do you tend to listen to music as much as you always did?

I don't have music on USB's or an MP3 player but the FM channels play good songs when they don't have 20 minutes of commercials which i hate since it seems like more commercials than music. So that's why i Like Sirius.

I listen more than ever. Been retired 19 years. I even tune in for my 7 minute drive to my lady friends house!

I've never seen the benefit of Sirius in the day of bluetooth and phones. Can anyone help me justify it? I let mine expire because I literally never used it.
I’m not a piddler. Running my phone or some other plugged in device is not for me.

I get in and go, one touch on my screen and I’m listening to cassette era music or vinyl record music. With No Fiddling.
I am not a fiddler.
Making play lists longer and longer.
The Sirius stations have extensive collections.
One touch I’m on pop music then 70’s or 80’s
90’s when I wanna torture myself.
AT’s why !

I have 100s of songs on USB, and i would have loved a CD player in the Maverick. But what I like about Sirius is when they play a song from my youth that I had forgotten about and it brings back a memory of that time. I never get that from my CDs or USBs. I agree about FM and the commercials. Plus in my area the FM station I liked changed formats and it is canned talk and music like WKRP warned us about back in the 70s
I 100% and wholeheartedly agree with everything you both said. The thing with SiriusXM is there is so much content and with the vast variety it's an incredible value at $5 a month. I'd much rather pay for this than Spotify where I have to keep trying to come up with new things to listen to.

Some days I might listen to the MLB network or listen to a Yankees game.
Other days I listen to other sports talk stations depending on what the days topic is.

Then there are the music channels which really cover just about everything. I love 70's, 80's and 90's rock music so of course there is Lithium, Hair Nation, Classic Rewind, Classic Vinyl, and many more. Some days I even just love the 80's channel for 80's pop hits.

I think it was Labor Day weekend last year they had a great special on the Beetles channel with Peter Jackson telling great stories of things I never knew or heard. I couldn't turn it off and I'm not even that big of a Beetles fan.

When my wife got us a Spotify subscription last year it was cool at first but then I found I had to keep picking up my phone and searching for something that I might feel like listening to. I'm not the kind of person who can listen to the same 10 bands or artists forever, I get bored. That's just my opinion.

I’ve had it since the 90s when it was just XM and have never paid full price, but it’s a shame you have to call or chat every stinking time. The chat is controlled by an AI agent and if you just start typing “cancel too expensive” a couple times you will get it to offer the $5 pretty quickly I believe.

I have had Sirius XM on my vehicles for 15 years, 20 years if I count from the first vehicle my father purchased with the option. I love it because it works everywhere and doesn't have the coverage issues that phone based data music or AM/FM radio has, which is important to me since I live in the sticks.

With that said, my biggest gripe with them is how they stick you with auto renewal and you can't opt out of that, so they can jack your rates up if you forget to "renegotiate" before your contract period ends. Last year they offered me Sirius XM for $20/month for life on both my vehicles out of the blue, however, I am worried when I sold my one vehicle and replaced it with the Maverick it may have screwed that up.

Fingers crossed that's not the case, I will find out in a few months when my trial subscription ends on the Maverick...

I thought about that, but canceling is a horrible process. "Click chat to cancel" and it is a minimum 30 minute chat process. They make it hard to cancel. I get why they want to make it hard but it has bred into me a general discontent with Sirius. Long story but I would have kept the old truck on Sirius if it were not for their nasty cancel process.
I canceled mine the other day and it was a breeze. I had enabled it with a very low monthly price, but I honestly don't use it very much. I prefer playing my playlists from my iPhone. I was honest and told the dude I have not driven the truck in 2 months because I had a stroke and reminded him I am currently partially blind the minute he tried to offer the new offer and he let it go fast! It is not like me to use excuses to get my way, but I was not in any mood to play the game!
