Good afternoon all. Im Kyle. I live in the awful state of Virginia (not actually a state for lovers). And last thursday i said good bye to my Patriot. At 11 years and ~190k miles it was time to trade the old girl in. I got my 2025 Maverick XLT 2.0 Ecoboost with the 4k tow package because my wife has a non-existent camper im supposed to tow around or something?

The ghost camper! Invisible to the naked eye, takes up no actual space, cars behind you can even pull right into it and never know!

Beware the sudden fixer upper Airstream, a 25ft portable tunnel of "cute couple project", pulled out of a mangrove swamp and the only known case of having tinworm, termites and teredos.

Nice truck! I'm also in Virginia, in the People's Republic of Fairfax. Got the 4K tow package because my wife wants a camper trailer with a commode, which nearly all are over 2,000 lbs. My old Honda CR-V can only pull 1,200. Stopped at Beckley's in Maryland and the one she likes (NuCamp TAB 360) costs as much as the Mav!

some photos. Not fancy. Simple. Clean. Coffee mug and invisible camper provided for scale.
I am curious to know why some people black out their license plates. Probably some privacy thing but the thing is every day hundreds of people see your plates just driving around. Why aren't you worried about all of them? What is the worst case scenario of showing your plates on this forum?

I'm curious to know how some people keeps their car so long, I don't wanna to be rude, but, in so many years, any car accidents? Car hail damage? Car dents? Something to push you to want to flip cars sooner?! Even a hijacked IDK

I am not sure what accidents, hail damage, dents, or flipping cars has to do with hiding your plate number?

"This forum" isn't a cozy little clubroom, it's wide open to the internet, and is scraped and indexed by many public and private bots and crawlers. It's kinda surprising that anyone in this day and age doubts the wisdom of keeping any and all personally identifiable information offline.

But you do you, I'm sure you won't mind the next crazy you cut off purely by accident, phoning you, turning up at your work, etc etc if a simple websearch can tie all the pieces together.

Though much dramatised in movies such as "Gone in 60 seconds" there are criminal organisations that will steal cars to order. So if a richer guy in a shadier region of the world says, "Get me a ruby red Lariat" and yours turns up on an image search with the plate showing. It's pretty easy from there to figure out where it's likely to be parked most of the day, or most of the night.

No security is perfect, but don't make yourself low hanging fruit.

I cannot speak for all states but getting personal information from a license plate is not at all easy. "Personal owner information for California license plates—such as name and address—is protected by federal and state privacy laws, specifically the Driver Privacy Protection Act (DPPA). This means the general public cannot legally obtain the identity of the person or entity who owns a specific license plate without a valid, legal reason and proper authorization." I will however, do me, as you suggest.
