How fast are you going? Anytime I have a downhill stretch of highway at 55, or freeway at 70, I switch to Sport mode and tap the brakes to invoke a downshift or two. Of course, without proper instrument panel indicators, I have no idea what gear I'm in or downshifting to, but revs will climb to 3500 or so and keep me in pace with the cars around me at a good enough speed to not have to burn the brakes or warp the rotors. The Mav will understand my intention and oftentimes downshift further on its own, too. When it's less steep and I need to step on the gas to hold speed, I'll switch back to Normal mode. If kept in Normal from the top, I'm riding the brakes all the way down. My Ranger's rotors warped even disengaging OD and my wife's Chev has a mean rotor pulsation when going downhill even with downshifting, too. I don't want to be hurting my brakes at just 700 miles.

As a semi truck driver, I love how it does this. It helps save your brake pads. How and when it does this depends a lot on what drive mode you are in. If you want it to happen more, switch closer to tow/haul mode. If you want it to happen less, switch closer to ice/snow. If you are just coasting down a hill w/o cruise control and you just wish it would stay in 8th, I bet another way of stopping it would be to put the transmission in manual mode. I'm imagining your situation where this hill is the perfect grade to go down in 8th with no brakes or gas but when is downshifts, it slows you down too much :)

Sometimes when going down hills and not touching the Brake pedal in Normal Mode some times My transmission downshifts and the rpm's go up to 3,000 rpm!! Have any of You guys noticed this? Thanks
Do you have cruise control set? I hope the 2025s have improved transmission logic programming - but in my 2023, the cruise control will allow the truck to go 10 mph OVER the set speed on a steep highway downhill run. Previous vehicles I've had would downshift 1, 2, or even 3 gears to keep me relatively close to the set speed. This is another reason I'll end up putting a paddle-shifter steering wheel in my truck.

Most of the time when i notice it 40-45 mph.

IIRC yes the cruise control was set .Maybe I'll try it without it set and see what happens.

I have a ‘25 EB, but I’m “weird” in that I drive exclusively (mostly) in manual mode using the paddle shifters. Downshifting will spike up the revs - 3000 does not sound too unreasonable as I think our “redline” is 6500-7000?

And the computer will make sure that “money shifts” are avoided - both in automatic & manual automatic mode:)

I also never use cruise control which I suspect was the cause of your automatic downshift. Nice adrenaline rush? ;)

If cruise control is set, your truck was behaving normally. The system was trying to hold your set speed, and other than cutting fuel, downshifting is the only other thing it can do.

As I was saying, I wish my 2023 did this more effectively. If the grade is steep enough, 3,000 rpm isn’t really that shocking. With 8 speeds to choose from, I would expect the transmission logic to play it even closer to redline.

Odd,
My 2024 Ecoboost Lariat won’t let me gain even 5 mph above a cruise control setting unless it’s really a steep drop.
Mine actually uses the brakes. I can feel them dig in.
Only time my RPM climbs to 2500 is when Im going slow like 10-20 mph and start down a drop.
It seems to sense this and holds in the lower gears.
ALL this is in normal mode,
In ECO my rpm’s stay on the bottom like cars back in the day.
I’ve got one drop right after a stop sign that I often go into eco just for the helluv it.

True and i also figured out it was doing that because the cruise control was set to keep the speed it was set at. FWIW it doesn't do it with the cruise control off.

Cool :) I really like how it does that myself. Like I said before, play around with the drive modes to make it act more like you prefer. Closer to Snow/Ice and it will be less aggressive downshifting. Closer to Tow/Haul and it will be more aggressive. Think of the drive modes more like the cruise control attitude adjuster. With everyday driving, I use Eco because of the way it slowly gets up to cruise speed. When I'm going down long hills, I like to switch to Tow/Haul because I like the way it tries to use more engine braking and less friction braking.

FWIW, 3,000 is nothin for this engine.
Mine does downshift on a downhill to engine brake on decel, it should.
Sport and Tow do an even better job of that. Lobo mode is even more aggro, and will hold a gear well into 4-5k (maybe, likely more, but I haven't been willing to test it too much beyond that until break in is complete).

Don't be afraid of 4-5k (+*) RPM under accel, its a 2.0L I4, She likes it.
*Granted, the small spooly boi likely doesn't do much but generate heat much past 5-5500k, and you're better off up-shifting at that point to keep it near the 2700-3200 Torque band where it makes bigger boost. If it held 20+ psi to red line...then i'd say take it into the red!

I think thats adaptive cruise control, right? Which allows you to start-stop with Acc?

Normies don't get the brake assist with CC, and have to still drive their automobiles like plebs, with their feet and hands, as if we were back in the 1900s. ;)

I do have the ACC on yes but there's no vehicles in front of me. It's just doing that to maintain whatever cruise control setting I have. If I had the cruise control set at 60 and it started coasting over 60, the cruise control itself applies the brake to keep it near 60. It also seems to know when it's holding the brake for too long or too much and that's when it decides to downshift itself. The downshifting doesn't happen immediately, there's a delay for it to try to figure out if this is a long downhill or a short downhill.

I have the Lariat / Tremor that can read the speed limit signs. Sometimes it makes me laugh because when a speed zone sneaks up on it, the cruise control hits the brakes like it saw the cop before I did lol
