I think there was another one. Just can’t remember it.
Maybe I’m just not old enough………

They were all over the place with trim names becoming models and vice versa. There was a Ranger trim, a Sport trim, a Custom trim, Country Squire seemed to be a trim when there were 3 wagons on the LTD, then Crown Victoria was originally a trim.

To this day, when I see "EB" I first think of Eddie Bauer before ecoboost comes to mine.

"Maverick" to most people's minds, would mean...
Someone or Thing that is Different, Out of the box...
Which, looking at making a Small truck, using a Unibody Architecture.
For it's payload capacity (1500#), the Old Rangers (body/box on frame) were probably overkill on the chassis end.

As far as connecting this to "Topgun", it is a stretch....
And YES!! The Maverick, should have been the 4th Generation Ranger...

I know what you are referring to, but I have only seen one Tom Cruise movie and that was from like 1982 or 1983 called all the right moves. Just never cared for the guy

I've never liked him, either, because he typically plays the same character in a story with the same plot.

The classic Tom Cruise movie plot: Tom Cruise is an asshole. Because he is an asshole, something bad happens or someone gets killed. He persists in being an asshole ... and triumphs!

I like him in two sci-fi movies. First, Minority Report. Second, Edge of Tomorrow. This one is actually great for people who don't like Tom Cruise, because you get to see him die over and over.

I typically say it like, he's an arrogant ace at something but not as good as he thinks, screws up and uses mostly charm and good luck disguised as competence to pull his ass out the fire and come out smelling of roses in the end.

Actually, ford made a cruise prototype of the maverick.

But it practically drowned while shooting a routine water scene, and they pulled the plug.
