That's a top notch cover. However, the Maverick bed design is different than any other truck. There is no gap between the rear window and the bed to drain water. There is also a gap on the bed rail that needs to be sealed. Unless the review comes directly from a Maverick owner, do not rely on it.
This is something I was aware of but thinking about it, I can see that lack of gap causing such an issue. I know the Diamondback provides a weather stripping kit on top of the seals already on the cover itself but I will have to read some more on the issue. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Tremor is more off road oriented imo but to each their own. Any trim in with FX4 + 4k would be the more well rounded, the trim you choose (XL, XLT, Lariat) would be what creature comforts you want. Personally I went with the same "Swiss Army Knife" in mind. Also, non FX4 is also a good all rounder if you know you'll be modding suspension and such but you'll probably want to search how to get the fx4 or Tremor drive modes. Just make sure its AWD. It's a headache to do but I've seen members here do it.
From what I have seen, the feature set on the Tremor is closer to what I am looking for but if I am not towing, does the 4K package offer me some advantage I am not seeing? I'm just curious and after having AWD, I can't see myself going without it ever again.

Just extra engine and transmission cooling, 7 pin trailer wiring connector for RVs/braked trailers, and a trailer brake controller afaik. You can add it all yourself, but not as cheaply perhaps. Or, add better-than-Tremor off road suspension and tires to a non-Tremor. 6 of one, half dozen of the other. The thing that might be tricky to add to a non-Tremor is the cool rear differential with the dual clutches..

Here's the thing, I am looking at the Diamond covers, specifically this model:

https://diamondbackcovers.com/products/diamondbackse?variant=28905652553

The reviews I have read around the internet say it can provide that level of sealing, unlike the Bronco Sport the Maverick still has the pickup bed for bulkier items and its a far better looking vehicle.
I have the factory hard tri-fold cover. I think it was a $1500 option (cheaper than the Diamondback, but everybody claims it's overpriced). I get very little water intrusion with it. I suspect how well it seals varies by individual installation, though.

Yeah more than anything, the Tremor's dual clutch AWD system really appeals to me because it adds the ability to lock the rear differential and lock the AWD system for a 50/50 split on power. I built a Lariet with the FX4 but the package didnt detail if it adds the rear diff/4WD lock onto that AWD system.

While this discussion was going, the dealership I was talking with texted me and I showed my interest in a Maverick but I didn't specify what trim, so I am going to see if they have an Ecoboost FX4, an AWD Hybrid and a Maverick. At this point I think I will have to drive them to really see what's going to fit me best. 🤷‍♂️

I also noticed Ford has a rolling cover for $1200 but I can't find much info on it, like the material the cover is made of and how well it seals, plus I want something that won't be a bear to remove if I need the whole bed for bulk items. Plus you're going to lose a foot from the bed with the box the cover rolls into, not something I really want on a 4.5 foot bed. I will also look into the tri-fold by Ford, I want to make sure I can get something that locks and won't be easy for someone to pry open.

Mine doesn't have a lock, but to open it properly, you have to have the tailgate open. You could likely pry it open easily, but you could also pry open one with a lock on it.

The issue with covers on Mavericks is the Maverick itself. There is NO gap at the cab for water to run off so it gets channeled into the bed. Also the 1/4" gap in the rail trim pieces area funnel to the bed. Ford should have made the caps level or sloped towards the road not lower on the bed side.
There is a rubber strip running along the front of the Ford hard tri-fold cover that keeps most of the water out. When I wash my truck, I blast the hose there trying to get oak leaves out. Only a couple tablespoons of water get into the bed.

Thats part of the reason I like the Diamondback, it’s made completely of metal, so it will be a bit more difficult to pry open. Plus with other materials like polymers I am concerned exposure to sun/UV light will eventually cause the material to fade/crack.

Yeah that seems like a shortsighted decision, I will have to do more reading here and elsewhere on the subject to see how feasible dry storage is even with a good cover.

Not every cover has that strip. Especially the ones without additional rails. For the price of the Ford one it BETTER keep water out.
But the Ford one does have that strip and it works great. That's why I'm very pleased with it and recommend it (even though every time I do, someone tries to tell me about problems with it that mine doesn't have).

My Ford one isn't all metal, but it is by no means flimsy. I just put some VRP on mine and it looks great (the truck is only 7 months old, but it stays in the Florida sun). Painted metal will need repainting.

All im getting at is know your uses and get the one best suited to that, the shortcomings of the tremor is that it's can't be bought with 4k towing package. If you dont have to tow anything over 2k then the tremor is perfect. But imo if you want something with more off road capabilities then maybe a Maverick in general isn't suited for that use. for a bit more you could get a base model 4x4 Ranger.

Fair point but I don't feel the Diamondback finish would be so likely to fade anymore prematurely than the paint of the vehicle itself, it can also be redone worse case. For a metal cover, the Diamondback doesn't seem that heavy I wonder if its aluminum?

I agree it seems the biggest issue with the Tremor is the towing issue but I am renting and I really don't have the room for something on a trailer even if I wanted it. As for off roading, I can accept the Maverick Tremor won't be as capable as a Bronco but it seems like its still more capable than the non-Tremor Maverick.

I'd go for a Ranger but it cost more, doesn't have an AWD mode, gets lower fuel economy than the Tremor and its another 10 inches longer which will make it harder for me to street park it when I go into the city.

That's why I would compromise with the Maverick so I can get something that can do a little of everything but with less capacity. Still, I am going to consider all the trims of the Maverick before making a decision, if I cannot get a reasonable amount of off road performance from the Tremor than maybe I will have to accept giving that up.

4x4 is better suited off road than awd, also body on frame is more rugged than unibody set up. Personally I dont own a trailer or anything because I rarely have a use for one, but its much cheaper than renting a trailer vs truck and trailer. But seems like your set on the tremor. Just get it, you're definitely upgrading from your current and neither option will disappoint.
