Hey everyone, I'm posting a video and some images of the error messages from my Ford Maverick 2022 FX4 2.0L EcoBoost. My truck only has less than 14,000 miles, but the other day when I started it, I heard a really loud, pulsating noise coming from what seems like the back—possibly the transmission or power transfer unit area. Shortly after, I got the all-wheel drive fault and service required alerts.

I've already taken it to the dealership and am waiting on their feedback, but I'm curious if anyone else has experienced something similar or has any insights on what might be causing this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Do you tow a boat? The under carriage looks pretty "crusty" as if exposed to a lot of sea water. This may have caused the issue with your RDU.
Hoping not too serious.
Guessing still under warranty.

Thanks for the response, but I've never towed anything with this truck nor it's been exposed to sea water—it's only got under 14,000 highway miles on it. In fact, the very first thing I did after picking it up from the dealership was to get a full undercoating done using Würth German undercoating.

It's definitely under warranty, but I'm reaching out here in case anyone has experienced this issue before or has any insights.

Thanks again for the input!

Please follow up on the diagnosis. That sounds terrible.

My best guess is that at power on, the solenoid that controls the RDU clutch pack engages, then disengages, to verify that you’re not driving around all day with awd engaged. And your problem is either that the solenoid is bound up, broken or the sensor is reporting the incorrect position back to the computer and it keeps trying the procedure over and over.

I found that the unit is the Dana Spicer AdvanTek single clutch RDU, for the FX4, but I couldn’t find a parts diagram.

I have a 24 maverick that did the same sort of thing in Jan/Feb. mines back at the dealership getting I don't know what done to it. Have you had any luck with your truck?

I've never heard a Maverick or anything else make a noise like that. combined with the error messages, though, I would look first at the PTU.

I assume you meant that they repaired it, and now you're having additional issues, or a repeat of the prior issue?

do you still have your work order from that jan/feb appointment? take pics of it and upload it if you do.

This was a drive by. He posted on February 23 and was last seen on the forum on February 24.

yeah, I saw that about the OP... but Monkeybread just posted today, apparently saying he has/had a similar noise.

If something wild and or weird ever happens to my 24 Eco I’ll take it in, let the dealer fix it then report back in here.
Less drama.

Hopefully MonkeyBread expands on this as I suspect a drive-by also ... I'm all ears though ;)

You're correct it was fixed and ran great again, until I noticed the rear binding up. I have the work order but sadly it's in the truck. I'll keep you gus updated on everything that gets replaced. The dealership has been really good about doing it all under warranty even my rental.

Derek, we got the part in for the Maverick and got it installed. We test drove the vehicle and after a while of driving and turning corners it starts to chatter again. We contacted Ford engineering on the issue and they are going to have us monitor some things and report back to them so we can get this resolved. As soon as I have some answers I will let you know.

That's the latest update I received today.
