STEP 8 - Install tonneau cover on truck bed. I was finally able to muster my son-in-law workforce which included my grandson. While two can get the job done, we found the magic number to be three, one on either side and a third lifting the heavy container from inside the bed. The instruction call for the power cord to be connected before the unit is placed in its final position, centered and just short of touching the bed’s front wall. I also have Mabett’s truck bed spoiler mounted. It appears to be a good seal between the spoiler and the tonneau cover.

STEP 11 – Install drain tubes. I chose to install the front drain tubes out of sequence. Rather than installing them after the unit had been secured in the bed, I installed the drains before lifting the assembled cover into position. I saved myself having to work blind or looking up while on my back. I also identified a major problem completing the install with a DIBL. The holes previously drilled in the liner and the side of the bed in Step #1 to receive the front drain tubes are separated between by a significant gap between the backs of the DIBL and the truck's . If the drain is attached as the instructions call for, draining water will fall between the liner and truck wall and not to the outside. I intend to make a trip to the big box and pick up a short length of tubing to fit inside the drain tube Wolfbox provides and bridge both holes in order to properly drain the cover's container.

Today, after paying for two hours of a shop technician’s time I have a working powered, retractable tonneau cover securing my Mavericks’s truck bed. Between my age and restricted mobility, hiring some younger hands was necessary to lift the unit out of the bed and reset it squarely as intended without having to redo the weather stripping. More important, it was necessary to double check the work I had accomplished earlier by myself. I still don’t know what the fault was that prevented my performing the calibration function when the cover was first dropped into the bed. But now, it WORKS!!! There are a few odds and ends yet to be completed and I need to see what of my previous build can be reinstalled in the bed. That begins tomorrow.

The convenience of this cover became immediately apparent. I pick up my great grandkids from their respective schools while their parents are still at work. The kids come with multiple backpacks and cased musical instruments. Usually they attempt to cram everything into the their seats with them. Not today. I was able to use the remote to partially open the cover and allow them to drop their cargo into the bed without unduly delaying others in the pick up line by having to get out to roll back my old cover. I like it!

STEP 9 – Install mounting brackets. Installing the mounting brackets is best accomplished working inside the truck bed. The lower mounting bolts are fairly easy to secure, visually slide the threaded nut pieces in the rail in line with the mount’s holes and loosely thread a bolt. The upper bolts are a different story. Not being able to work on my back while looking up, I called upon my newly minted ‘teenager’ great grandson to do the job for me. It’s a little tricky getting the sliding T-nuts in position for tightening. Once in place, all four bolts are fully tightened. I admit to differing from Wolfbox’s instructions. They call for using two mounting brackets on each side rail. I chose to go with one mounted toward the tailgate. The reason was I have several mods, a sliding bed divider and multiple adjustable cargo anchors, that ride in the rails. Mounting the two cover mounts limited my ability to slide these along much of the length of the rails. I am confident the weight of the cannister alone on the front end is enough to keep the unit from shifting.

STEP 10 - Align the side rails. Once in place, assuring the unit is square to the bed opening is simple. Wolf box provides a slide in rail that temporarily spans the two side legs to help in the process. Adjusting the unit is a matter of measuring from corner to corner of the bed opening to assure square and eyeballing equal distance from the outside of the legs to the edge of the bed on both slides.

Step 12 – Finish installation. The final steps power up the unit by inserting the 25a fuse into the power cord at the battery, engages the clutch by placing the handle so that it is vertical, and protecting the wiring harness by securing a cover panel on the driver’s side of the container. Installation complete! Grab your unit’s key fob, test the cover’s operation, and you're done.
