I just fit a true full size 225/65-17 on mine and wanted to add some pics and some tips for anyone wanting to upgrade from the stupid donut spare. Even the optional "full size" spare has limitations if you read the owner's manual.

When cranking the spare into place make sure it's not swinging or it might get caught on the front stopper which will push the tire towards the bumper and contact the hitch (if equipped). The tire should end up level.

Here's a few pics showing my mad MS Paint skills.

IMO the donut spare can be dangerous in a few situations like when you have a heavy load, are towing or you're in bad weather. I always seem to get a flat when I'm up in the mountains so having a true full size spare is one less thing to worry about.

Seriously, look at this pathetic spare:

thanks, is there some type of single lug nut that must be removed and then replaced when reinstalling?

Yes, Ford actually has a secondary cable that bolts to the wheel in case the lowering cable breaks. You simply use the cool folding lug wrench to unbolt it. There's a good video in this section that covers it all.
