Why did you choose your Mav Tremor over an entry level Ranger? Or other entry level midsize trucks; Colorado, Tacoma, etc?

I'm definitely leaning toward the Tremor but not sure why…mostly a gut feeling. With the Tremor Package (and especially if you go for the Lariat) you’re getting into midsize price range.

Mostly I’m looking for y’all to feed my confirmation bias (tell me my gut is right)
I bought my 23 Lariat Tremor primarily because I have back problems and the Maverick Tremor suspension is softer than the 23 Ranger FX4. The Maverick has coil springs and the Ranger has leaf springs which ride very rough if the bed is empty. Now that the Ranger Raptor is available with its well regarded long travel suspension, I'm thinking about trading up.

I love my '23 XLT Tremor. Traded a '22 XLT FX 4K for it and the dealer gave me every penny I paid for it toward the Tremor.
I looked at all the Mid-Sized trucks, Taco, very capable but uncomfortable, sucks gas, and is...stale. Ranger is a poor mans Taco and the Mav has a larger interior. Chevy, Jimmy, and Nissan all overpriced.
The difference for me between the Tremor and FX4, Tremor, Beefier drive train, more clearance, surprisingly capable off road, smoother ride (off road shocks), better looks. FX4 4K, 2MPG better, 4K tow (I miss), quicker off the line due to lower gearing, stiffer ride. otherwise both punch way above their class.

Thanks Y'all. I'm feeling like it's the right move based on my needs list:
  • Affordable
  • Occasional offroad
  • Decent gas mileage
  • Good lookin'
  • Comfy for longish rides
  • Somewhat partial to Fords (old habits...)
  • Compact Size - for both city parking and offroad trailing
Appreciate all the feedback!
We test drove side by side lariat and XLT tremor. Do that and see if you think the same, but the tremor felt very maneuverable and stable. We didn’t plan to push the envelope on lbs in a small truck bed. Our only regret and why we are selling our tremor XLT is that we did not get the lariat comforts and we will rectify that by getting a tremor lariat :)

if you are in Virginia, feel free to go for a ride up a mountain road with us and see how it compares to a ranger!

If you want even softer, you may want to test drive the non-FX4 non-Tremor AWD Maverick. It is noticeably softer than my Tremor Maverick. The shocks on the Tremor are far stiffer to prevent springs from bottoming out in off-road conditions. I’ve owned both and although the Tremor better suits my needs, I do miss the comfort of my non-Tremor non-FX4 AWD model.

I had 4 new, regular cab rear wheel drive rangers, and a used one over a 30 year period (1989 to 2022) and still have two of them. I like cute little cars and trucks. I ordered two different 2022 mavs from two different dealers. It was 100 bucks deposit and wait for who knows how long to get one. One got built in late 2022 and i was waiting on delivery when the order banks opened up for 2023. I went to the other dealer and changed my order to a base xlt tremor. The sales manager was kind of suspicious of my motives. He said "are you really going to buy this?" I said to him " Well probably, but is it really a big problem? You cant get them anyway. You'll be able to sell it wont you?" He had a sudden flash of reality and said " Oh, yeah, ok lets get you a tremor."

My main thing about a vehicle is getting me to work in the winter. I had a 22 xlt, fx4 that did a good job in snow the winter of 22/23. My 24 xlt, tremor did even better in the winter of 23/24. The advanced all wheel drive really is a step up from the basic a.w.d. fx4. The basic tremor package just impresses the hell out of me, and i am glad i upgraded.

Traded my '23 XLT FX4 for my '24 Lariat Tremor. I was just telling someone that I liked the FX4 very much but love the Tremor. I'm sure some of that is Lariat features I missed with the XLT but the ride and handling also factors in. I liked the XLT cloth interior but couldn't stomach the Lariats color combination, the Tremor and indeed the BAP is vast improvement. If you are considering the BAP on the XLT or Lariat you should think about the Tremor because $$ wise you are halfway there. Wasn't interested in anything bigger, it really suites my needs perfectly. The Ranger Raptor though is mighty tasty but more truck and $$ then I need.

My fully loaded Lariat Tremor checked all the boxes for me as far as what I need & want in a truck & the fact that I paid msrp for it with no mark up.

So I was looking for a "bed", I drive a Ford BS BL, I carry my 2 bikes with it, I think having a bed could be handy, I went to see and drive the 2025 Nissan Frontier (Navara) with the 4 cylinders engine (this pick up is smaller than the V6), I also went and check the 2025 Toyota Tacoma SR and the 2024 Ford Maverick Lariat Tremor ( brand new, left over)
The Nissan Navara feels "old"
The Tacoma SR with the cloth seats feels "cheap"
And I got a sweet deal on my 2024 FML Tremor... definitely a winner for me!

was n the market for a midsized truck , couldn't justify the cost of a full size and the gas given the 90+ miles a day i drive especially when 70% of the time its just me in it . originally was looking at the tacoma and the ranger, the tacoma had shit for back seat space and went to looking at rangers and my daughter yell dad check this out and went over and saw the tremor maverick and the rest was history. it checked all the boxes for what i wanted and needed , it fit me a 3 others in it comfortable . also was like $8k less then what i was looking at and 6-8 miles more mpg so it was a bigger win in the end
