Why AI articles are so boring, according to an AI article generator.

What was provided as input to qualify the response (the three prompts) would be interesting to know.

The first prompt:

Rewrite the following article in a way that addresses the actual issues the article points out. <with the original article pasted in>

The output from this was more "story" oriented with some author's voice but still somewhat generic sounding.

The second prompt:

Now let's adjust this. This is being posted on a forum of enthusiasts of the Ford Maverick truck. Make it relevant to that forum knowing that the age group of those on the forum skews older.

Basically, this was to help define the intended audience for the writing. This is the biggest piece that I believe most people don't think about. They just ask for an article about something. Because I've made some of my living as a writer, I understand that you need to be writing to someone and the more specific you define that, the more relatable the final product will be (many authors will envision writing to a specific person but I've at least defined some kind of demographic in the prompt).

The third prompt:

Reduce the wordiness and remove any em dashes.

This is a quick editing prompt. If I were going for something more polished I would spend a lot more time at this stage or perhaps even do this step myself depending on the need.

One thing AI is really good at is getting the user to continually ask for re-writes.
Think about it.
Corporations are making lots of money from the AI Servers being maxed out with the endless prompting.

It will take over because a huge percentage are dumb and have a need to look up and need to be a follower without questioning.

Back to the Maverick. How's your gas mileage. Has it decreased or increased over time. Is the window sticker accurate? Mine is almost like a Kleptomaniac. Varies widely being affected by temperature, time of day, usage and idiosyncratic software. Local driving sometimes 23.4, 28, 41, 58, 62 and so on. Highway is pretty consistent at 36.9 to 37.1.

It was three (actually 4) write/rewrites that also required human intervention (yours), and I imagine a fair amount of plagiarism (several active lawsuits about that currently, in different venues) to come up with something approaching what a forum member might use their brain for.

Without copying the feedback that began as " some author's voice " as you noted, much of what was generated would be unlikely to have the story line effect.

I saw a TV spot that interviewed the college professor noted on the WWI aviator's link posted below, and it really makes you wonder. Great to hire somebody with a degree these days based on their ability to find a chatbot.

What would be interesting to read if the term paper bots used the animated movie "Madagascar"
instead of the island nation Madagascar for snippets to add...
If so, there might have been a script with "Smile and wave boys... Smile and wave..."

I actually just saw a YouTube video of a guy explaining how to minimize the token use to address exactly that issue. It's a bit techie but if you were paying for this in a subscription it would definitely be something to consider.

What I've learned in my time with AI is that if you're looking for really good usable output, you almost have to understand not only what good output looks like but also what it takes in terms of the inputs and the transformation to get there. It's still a "dumb" tool. You can get to good output but it often still requires the human knowledge of how to get there and what it should look like when you do arrive.

The article link I posted was an example of dumb people not questioning their use of AI.

My mileage varies over time. It's better in the winter and worse in the summer. I don't drive much, because I work from home. I just look at what the computer tells me. In the winter it was sayin 25.9 mpg, and now it's saying 25.7 mpg.
