Where does the water drain with tonneau cover?

I installed a hard trifold on my sons XL and I cut little small X’s in the grommet just above those in this pic. Before I installed the cover I used silicone to fill to body seams next to window and two channels where the two pieces of bed cap came together. I waited a few days and trimmed silicone flush with razor blade then I installed cover so there was about 3/4” gap between back window and cover. He’s driven through a monsoon and had a tiny bit of water at the tailgate.

I was thinking of making a little gutter and gluing it to the window above the tonneau to keep some water migrating to that area.

I installed a soft roll up on my Mav the same way as my son’s trifold except it has no drains and it only leaks a little at the tailgate. Just be sure to put down a piece of weatherstrip at front of cover.

I went to check my bed for drain holes today but since it is below freezing I cannot open my "Ford OEM" hard-rolling tonneau.

The irony is that I bought my truck to use when the weather wasn't suitable for my motorcycles (basically December-April here on an island off the east coast of Canada) and I can't use my tonneau when it's cold.

One of many things the service dept will hear when it goes in for a scheduled undercoat they forgot to do when I bought it...

I picked up an aftermarket tri-fold, and took it through a brushless high pressure wash.
It has a good perimeter seal, and the water intrusion was negligible.
The truck has forward bed drains that seem adequate, so I wonder how much benefit there is having a plumbed in drain...
