I purchased a dealer loaner (Chevy) in Virginia. It had just over 3000 miles. the warranty was for 36 months 39,500 miles.
So you bought the truck as new?
I did not know that a dealer could extend a manufacturer's warranty...
Did they, do that, or give you a warranty by the dealer?

Did they also give you the paperwork indicating you were buying a vehicle used as a demo/loaner?

The dealer doesn't extend it. It is required by law if sold as a new demo or loaner the warranty miles start at the current odometer reading. Otherwise they must sell it as used with remaining warranty. As you posted earlier in Virginia it was titled as NEW because it was under 7500 miles and never titled prior. I also looked at a Maverick demo that would have had the mileage extended on the warranty. The months and miles start when titled to the first owner not when the dealer takes delivery. Not sure how other states work.
In 1985, 2 months before we learned we were having twins, we purchased a 1984 Pontiac Sunbird for my wife to use as a DD and haul our almost 4 year old around. It was a dealer demo with 8k miles on it and GM issued a warranty for 12 months/20000 miles.

As far as I was able to find out, getting a full factory 36K warranty plus the current mileage is a Virginia only option.
My truck had 150 ish miles as it was on a different dealer's lot, and the factory warranty ends at 36K.

Looks like Virginia is the best state to buy a car in!

You answered the questing I was in the middle of typing about "what law?" as it would have had to been a specific state one and not Federal.

I got educated years back thinking warranty was plus whatever miles when delivered and that turned out to be incorrect.

You would have been correct in Virginia...

There is a low limit for test drives that is NOT added. miles added for a dealer transfer by customer request also does not get added. My Maverick had 45 miles on it and the warranty ends at 36k. But a vehicle designated as demo or loaner falls under the law.
EDIT: Disclaimer, not an attorney or paid spokesman for a legal entity. Simply what I was told by the finance manager at the time I purchased the Chevy. The Pontiac was purchased in Ohio not Virginia. Possibly this is GM rules.
