What's Maverick's algorithm of collision warning?

I've been very curious about the collision prevention feature. I've tried many times to drive up close to the vehicles in front of me. But everytime, I push the brake before seeing the system to take over.

Until today, I was driving normally on a two-lane country road. There was one car in front of me. It was slowing down a little to turn to the side driveway entry. IMy speed was about 40 mph and I knew I would be able to pass the turning-away vehicle safely without braking. In the meantime, there was a car approaching on the opposite lane, nothing strange. But to my surprise, the bloody red warning message and graphics went off on my dash to tell me I was going to collide.

How could this possible? Because the radar sensed the slowing down of the car in front of me but didn't know it was turn away from my lane?

In my experience, it goes off when the car 250 feet in front of you turns into a gas station, but does absolutely nothing when a car 10 feet away slams on its brakes.

It's pretty common to get "false" warnings.....I've had several already in less than a month.

Some of the triggers are fairly easy to justify (slowing car in front), but I've had some with absolutely nothing in front of me, other than a hill in the road.

With adaptive speed control active, which can have an adjustable following distance, plus lane keep assist or lane centering (Lariat), when a car in front of you turns a corner or into a driveway, if the monitored following distance collapses too quickly, the Mav will apply the brakes to avoid what it thinks is an impending collision. This uses a radar sensor in the grille. Regular cruise control doesn’t use this radar sensor (uses front camera instead?), so may not react to an impending collision other than to warn the driver, also at an adjustable distance, but usually giving time for an inattentive driver to do something if the closing speed isn’t too great.
