Agreed... it is the time spent training the personel, proper use of material vs cheaper materials in the design and most importantly the quality control team that inspects per design intent. If these practises are followed anything can be made anywhere.
Now to instill pride in what you make can make a huge difference in the quality of the end product. Even if its not inherent in the design.
Most manufactures have lowered their standard of design to 1.5 sigma for most all consumer products. I heard this from a Ford QA rep when they came for a visit a few years ago.
There is zero margin for error with .5 sigma of tolerance.
2 sigma at a minimum for me thank you.
