Mav has lots of USB ports but not where I need them. I could really use one in that spy box at the top of the windshield behind the rear view mirror. Why? I have a forward looking camera that needs USB power. The cord hanging down is so annoying.

This is a growing "complaint" on a lot of new vehicles. Lots of reasons to have one up there and a dashcam is the most common reason. It certainly would simplify things, especially since every manufacturer offers the sale of them as accessories for a marked up price than what you would pay aftermarket when you go to build one. You'd think instead of having to make a specific adapter to their attempt at proprietary partnership, they would just opt for a USB plug.

As for your cabling issue, look into hard wiring. Running a dashcam from the USB port really isn't the best solution. Regardless, you can still run the cabling through the same locations to hide it overall. Lots of info on that stuff here already.

Keep searching. Many detailed articles here where members have done a bang up job adding in USB ports there.

I've looked at several additions here and elsewhere, and I remain confused. It was my understanding that USB should be 5v, not 12v.
I'm really happy to be wrong

You are correct. There is a conversion in the dashcams/cables.

I know they can't retrofit it and I could (and probably will) McGuiver it. I am just thinking of future generations of Mav owners.

I took the easy way out for hard wiring my interior accessories. My front dash cam, foot well LED Strips, and MPH HUD are all powered from a x4 multi port USB hub. The hub is secured with 3M tape to the center console. They can be had for less than $2. from Temu. I especially like that the ports have an independent switch and LED light to indicate when power is applied. I notched the housing above the mirror to hide the entry point of the dash cam’s power cable. All wiring is hidden following common routing, under the headliner, down the A pillar, and under and across the dash to the hub. One interesting twist, On two occasions I tried a x7 port USB hub. My devices went haywire, When I returned to the original x4 port hub, everything went back to normal. I got the same conflict with two different x7 hubs. Go figure. Questions?

My primary issue with the USB ports are that with exception of the two (USB-A and USC-C) below the climate controls, the rest are just power only. For me it would be more useful if the one in the rear seat was also data capable (one inside the center console would be perfect) as I prefer to keep my phone in there.
