Ran across this on another forum. Someone is selling a kit to turn modern Beatles to a pickup. Thought I'd share it.

Maybe not put this in the General Mavericks Topic? It is not Maverick related in any way.
I thought the Fahrvergnügen truck post was pretty amusing.

Under which topic would you have preferred it been posted to, Maverick vs. The Competition?

No question it was entertaining. Yesterday we had a 'Ranchero' post in the General Mavericks Forum. Just trying to keep the site more useful/helpful by finding other places to put non-maverick content. A little housekeeping keeps this forum much more useful than say it's myriad of facebook counterparts.

He also makes kits to do the same thing to a Dodge Charger and a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Cool stuff...

The company that makes the kits is Smyth, and they have one for a handful of vehicles (Audi A-Series, VW Golf/Jetta/Beetle, Subaru, Jeep Cherokee, and Dodge Charger, if I recall correctly).

About 6 years ago, I had a Dodge Dakota that got sucky mileage. I wanted a smaller, more efficient truck and nobody made one. I bought a kit from Smyth and started with a VW Jetta TDI 4-door donor vehicle. After some serious cutting, assembly, finish bodywork, and paint, it ends up like this:

Ford Maverick VW Beatle pickup ute2

Their kits blend really well with the shape and body lines of the original vehicle. I ended up selling my Jetta UTE right after buying my Mav. I did a full-tank best of 47 mpg with the Jetta TDI.

For a size comparison, here's my Jetta next to the Mav.

For anyone interested in the VW Jetta's Smyth kit and that build process, you can take a look at my Google photos album here.

Can remember back in the day going on some pretty hairy roads in a friend's brat. And the passengers holding on for dear life in the bed seats! 😵

I had almost considered doing that a couple of years ago. A friend of mine was selling her Jetta for an insanely low price. The rear interior had been pretty trashed by her two large dogs, so it was the perfect candidate.

Cool always kinda liked those old vw pickups. To bad the chicken tax limits these kind of vehicles in the US. Not sure how VW got around that. Subaru did it by putting seats in the bed.
