USB Ports & ipod Question

I'm using an ipod shuffle to play music. When I shut off the truck, the operating light on the ipod remains illuminated. Thus, exercising an abundance of caution (read to avoid battery drain), I disconnect the ipod from the USB port. My question is, does the USB port at some point shut off or will it continue to power the ipod so long as it remains plugged in?

See if it turns off when you open the door.

I think it's like the infotainment system/screen - will stay powered for 10 minutes with ignition off or until door is opened.
