Two Face Color Changing Wheel Cleaner

I was interested in trying this new wheel cleaner from Chmical guys. It says it's not recommended for painted and bar-polished wheels like matte wheels and polished aluminum wheels. (https://www.chemicalguys.com/products/two-face-color-changing-wheel-cleaner)

I know this may be a stupid question for some of you but I know nothing about rims. Would it be safe to use on the stock 18" rims for the Lariat? I am not suer if the aluminum is polished or if the black is a matte finish.

My bad....that is what I meant, but I don't think the ford rims are either.

No personal experience with this exact cleaner, but when I have tried other similar cleaners I have not been impressed. The "color change" is reacting to iron, which would typically be from brakes. Good idea, but I haven't found them to work as well as something like Adams Wheel and Tire Cleaner, even though it doesn't change color. YMMV of course.

Chemical Guys is not all that great. There are like 2 or 3 products that I keep around that I like and actually work really well. If you're looking for a wheel cleaner that is safe for all wheels with the addition of an iron remover then I suggest this. You can grab it at AutoZone for the same price for more product.

I use Simple Green and Dawn dish detergent (only on the wheels) with a mild brush on tougher areas. Not only easy on the paint, finishes and such, both are easy on the environment. Since I use it from the first, there is very little crud accumulation. That way I don't have to use it every wash.

The warning is there for a reason. If you use the product on your rims and it ruins your rims it your on fault for the damaged finish. I use Meguiar's Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo and Conditioner Liquid on my truck
, tires, mud flaps and rims. Always get great results

The wheels are clearcoated so it would probably work without issue. The warning label is for polished or painted non- clear coated wheels.

I tried that CG iron remover-worthless.cleans your wheels but so does dish detergent-remove iron? only if it just blew in on a North Wind

This may be late, but I wouldn't use it. The lable says not for painted wheels. Clear coat is a transparent paint.

F150 original brake pads had terrible reddish brake dust . Hard to keep wheels clean . switched brake pads to ceramics and problem made much better . Just used brush and regular car wash soap to keep clean . No problem with brake dust on my Mav wheels yet . Of course I only have 8500 miles on it in 2 3/4 years . always garaged .

If you’re unsure about the finish, it’s safer to test a small spot first. For my own rims, I ended up using a cleaner from mustanghygiene.co.uk —works well on stock aluminum and doesn’t mess with matte or black finishes.

Just use a good mitt and car wash soap. Then you will not have to worry about the cleaner hurting your wheels. I never use wheel cleaner. Haven't ever.
