Hi, My brother has a 2024 tremor. Recently he took the auto train to Florida. While waiting to load the truck on the train the overheat went on. He shut it off and 20 minutes later it was loaded on the train.
The auto train I believe unloads in Virginia and then he drove back to NJ with no issues.
Today he took ot to the dealer and they said the fan was bad. Anyone else have a fan go bad? Sorry for the long post.

No overheat problems with my '24 Tremor, 99% of the time it is at 4 bars. Last week, in the Black Hills, when running downhill in Tow/Haul mode, holding a lower gear (3000-4000rpm), it actually dropped down to 3 bars.

Yeah it's probably just one of those things. I just wanted to see how widespread it may be.

I have never heard of anyone else having a fan issue, but I'd be concerned about the near and long term health of this engine. was fan actually bad, or just unplugged perhaps after some other work or repair?

an all-aluminum engine such as the 2.0 ecoboost does not handle overheating very well at all and can easily warp. major damage can be done the first time it overheats, typically a head gasket will blow and things crater from there.

Never had any overheating issues on my 24 tremor. I also haven’t attempted to tow anything yet but have hauled with it.

That is usually true.
But let me help calm this posters mind. I had a 3.5 work truck a few years back. Had a very odd hairline crack in a coolant spout. It would randomly overheat. At one point i had that thing in limp mode so many times and overheated probably 100 times before the dealer figured it out. Long story short the fail safes worked and that truck never had any long term issues.
But I would never want to even think about it overheating again. Always in the back of my mind after it was heated up

I have lived it also with a less happy ending. This is from either 2000 or 2001, the infamous Subaru head gasket issue. After I blew this same head gasket a second time 15k miles later, I fixed it again and sold the car. This was a significant factor in my choosing an Evo over an STi in 2004, and I'm probably never buying another Subaru again. (My co-worker just found out he has a blown head gasket on his 2018 Outback, he was quoted 6500 for a new engine.)

If you zoom in you can see the chunk of material missing on the head gasket.

Anyway - back to Mavericks - I really have never heard of anyone having an issue with a cooling fan going bad, but like anything I'm sure it could happen. I have *definitely* heard of people forgetting to plug in their radiator fan(s) after doing some work in the area and removing the shroud.

(edit: just looked at the time stamp on this file and it says 12/16/2001. it's an EJ25 SOHC)

Yes I know that. I don't know exactly how he handled it. But I think he was in the line waiting for it to get loaded on the train. Then he shut it off. He did drive back to NJ from VA with no incident.
On that note I have a MR2 Spyder. Got my oil changed at Toyota and when coming home the serpentine belt broke. The alternator light came on.but I did not think about the water pump. We'll it overheated about a mile from my home. I did get it home but had it towed to replace the belt.
Well belt was changed but the MR2 is a mid engine car. You have to bleed the cooling system. I ended up adding more coolant. Over the next few months I had to add coolant, not much but got me worried I ruined the engine. In the end it was the water pump leaking. Been fine since.

Wish I could say you were the first person I knew with that subbie issue. Seems that crowd really racked the focus rs over the coals for a head gasket issue also.
I’m not to knowledgeable with those systems. Maybe ford has a much better lower threshold for limp mode. I know it’s saved a bunch of people.
Also never heard of a single fan issue with a maverick or any 2.0 ecoboost for that matter.

Man I love finding out other maverick owners have neat cars also in the collection.

His Tremor overheated in stop and go traffic you say? Indeed that is peculiar. I’ve never heard of this happening before. It sounds like his cooling fan went bad. Should take it to the dealer and have them trouble shoot it.
