Tremor for overlanding, how good do we think it really will be?

I put in an order for my Tremor back in September. I currently drive a Forester and I love it, but I liked the idea of something more capable and having the functionality of a truck bed seems nice. I do live in an apartment in the city, so I can't think of any time I'd need to haul something in a truck bed, but you never know? Always nice to have options.

But still no word on if/when I will get my Mav. Starting to shop around for other options. Something that can get me deep in the woods for camping and exploring. Not hardcore rock crawling, I'm not expecting a Jeep, but deep down some trails. At first I started looking at things like maybe a Forester Wilderness or Outback Wilderness. I like the way they look, they seem to be pretty capable too, they can tow more than a Tremor. No truck bed, but I could get a roof platform and throw the occasional long piece of wood or something up on that. And the idea of having something I can sleep in the back of in a pinch is a huge bonus.

As I've gone down the rabbit hole of other options, I've started to gravitate towards something I hadn't considered before. A 4Runner. At first I didn't want something "that big", I live in the city and parallel parking is already a nightmare, but I looked it up and they are actually an inch shorter than an Outback (and 9 shorter than a Mav). They do get pretty bad gas mileage, but not THAT much worse than a Tremor honestly. No truck bed, but the back seats fold flat and create a platform that's 66" by 44", which is actually pretty close to the dimensions of the Mav bed with the tailgate up. Plus more than enough room to sleep in the back with all my gear still inside the vehicle. They're not cheap, but I could get a used one for only a few $k more than what my XLT Tremor was going to cost me.

My remaining question is around capability. The 4Runner, being a true body on fram 4x4, should technically be more capable, but I'm wondering by how much in the real world?

Definitely buy the vehicle that suits your needs. If you like smaller, comfortable hatchbacks, Subaru is a great choice. If you need a truck bed and more trail capability, then the Maverick Tremor might be better. A 4Runner or Ranger would be a serious off-roader.

Remember to choose the right tool for the job!

I think a Tremor with a topper and a suv tent or a home made bedcover platform and regular tent would be great for overlanding. Add some spacers and 31s, a solar kit, a fridge, and a kitchen kit and your set with easily 300+ miles of offroad range.

The Truck King did a YouTube review on it that might interest you. Didn't watch it. Just popped up on my feed.
