THINKWARE U3000 4K Camera Front & Rear

I wanted to share my experience with the THINKWARE U3000 4K camera installation in my 2024 Maverick Lariat AWD 2.0 EcoBoost. This camera is the listed on the members site for Ford Maverick and the one Ford lists as an accessory which can be purchased directly from Ford. I purchased this camera thinking if Ford was listing this camera as an accessory for the Maverick I would not have any problems with installation and use. The camera came with the ODB II cable plug to activate the camera in parked mode and have power. I called THINKWARE directly and spoke with their customer support. I purchased this directly from them. I was informed the ODB II cable would not work on the hybrid and battery models. I informed them I owned a 2.0 EcoBoost gasoline engine so that shouldn’t be an issue. I spent over one hour on the phone trouble shooting the problem of going into park mode while driving, turning itself on and off while driving and continuous beeping, not getting power. I asked them to ship the direct wire option and not another ODB II cable which would not work. After several weeks I finally was notified, it was shipped, the warranty team failed to provide updates. The communication was absolutely the worst. After getting the same cable and installing it again I had the same result and now in possession of two ODB II cables which will not work with my vehicle. I reached out to them again and waited several weeks with no answer or reply to my problem. When contacting them again on July 15th I went over everything several times. I informed them the information on their website was not accurate and should be updated. I was told again; my vehicle was listed as not being compatible with the ODB II cable. I informed them again, I did not own a hybrid, I owned the 2024 Maverick 2.0 EcoBoost Lariat edition. For some reason this was something they couldn’t comprehend. I was told it was being escalated to a higher level to get my issue resolved. I was sent an email late on July 15th informing me I could purchase the direct wire cable at an additional $29.95 to hook up my camera. The cost of the ODB II cable is $45.00. I was told they could only send me what came in the box. Although after troubling shooting the problem with photos etc. of the cable not working in the ODB II plug they would not ship the less expensive cable.

I was mailed cables that were not compatible with my vehicle, and I was now being told to spend additional funds to hook my U3000 4K camera to work when the vehicle is parked. The camera cost was $479.00 which is in the high range for today’s cameras. This should have been included in the box not the ODB II cable. It’s their responsibility to ensure when a customer purchases a camera the wiring in the box works on your vehicle, and not come back with additional cost by the consumer to make it work. This is their top-of-the-line camera to which they claim how wonderful it works. I This entire process took approximately 30 days, and I still have the issue of not working in parking mode and a plug I must plug into the 12v plug in my vehicle and two $45.00 ODB II cables not compatible for my vehicle. I’ve learned that the accessories Ford recommends isn’t always the best way to go and their suppliers have no concern or find it necessary to provide good support when issues arrive with their product.

Upate July25, 2024-Thinkware decided to send me the direct wire cable at no cost. This is what should have came with the camera.

Best to go the hard wire route for Parking Mode to function properly for dash cams.I got my hard wire kits for my vehicles for under 20.00 on Amazon.

Waiting for my new Cobra - SC 250R 4K Dual-View Front & Rear Dash Cam to arrive and install on my new Maverick.
