I ordered my 2022 Maverick on Nov. 6, 2021. I commute 80 miles a day and must have Cruise so I was forced to upgrade to the XLT. While I was at it I added CoPilot360, and trailer hitch and front carpet maps. In August of last years they cancelled my '22 and made me convert to a '23. That came with a @3100 price increase but they said it evened out with a $2750 rebate. I did not point out that $2750 is less than $3100.
Well, after 18 months and 11 24 days (but who's counting) the dealer called me last Thursday and told me my '23 XLT was here. I called the bank and pulled the trigger on the loan and picked up the check for $27,600 on the way. At least 5 times in the last 18 months someone at the dealership "encouraged me" to finance through them and someone will call you right back. They never did (call back). So at 4:30pm I was in the showroom with my check for the agreed on price (which included a $2750 rebate). They produced an invoice for $30,350 and asked for the check. I reminded them of the rebate I was given when they cancelled my '22 order and made me roll up to a '23. They said they had no record of a rebate and I assured them that I would walk and be very vocal about it. The sales manager went looking in the computer and found it in about 12 minutes. Smiles all around. I did do the one thing I never do- I bought the 125K extended warranty (for $3K). They said the truck was being serviced and then needed to be detailed and I could pick it up Friday morning. I am 67 years old and this is my first new car/vehicle.
I've put 400 miles on it already. I commute 80 miles a day in the mountains, including a 3,500' mountain with a four mile climb. The first three trips I averaged 45mpg. Today it was 44.5mpg. That is still better than 17mpg in my '07 Tacoma. I also have a'14 Volt which is/was my daily driver. After May 1st I can make the commute on battery only for Infinity mpg (12kva costs about $1 per charge). In cold weather it goes less than 40 miles so I average 130mpg. I accrue about $97 a year in has receipts. I figured out where The Goose fits in my equation-
Annual Gas Costs
Tacoma- $970
Volt- $90
Maverick- $270
This should be fine- I can live with a 75% fuel savings over my Toyota. The only mod I've ordered so far is the tailgate shock absorber.
So far so good. The only complaints so far is I did not think I would need to order "descent control" on a hybrid but it is not included. That is annoying. I also have my first error- FordPass reports my Blind Spot Detection has detected a fault. I am not sure where the fault is. When I back out of a blind parking place I get a warning if a car is approaching. I guess I'm reading the manual some more. If the rumors are true and Ford will produce a Maverick PHEV next year I plan to trade. Otherwise, it is my sincere hope that this is my "forever car". I kept my 2002 Ram Quadcab 20 years and I've had my Tacoma for 14 years (it goes up for sale this month). I don't know about selling the Volt yet. It's only problem (beside being a b!tch to get in and out of) is that since Chevy cancelled production in 2019 service has become terrible. I need the Maverick t last. Fingers crossed.
I appreciate everyone here in the user group. I have read all of the posts and grieved with all of the problems (and losses). Thank you all.
