In the house we bought the prior owner used stone work on the kitchen counter. It rough, some of the stones have places that are as much as 3/8 inch over the grout next to it. Very tired of it ( put a glass in the wrong place and over it goes). I was going to get a horizontal grinder with a concrete grinding attachment. Would that work?

I would replace it with a different type top and be done with it.I doubt you can level it with a grinder.

If you do rent a ventilation vaccum from home depot. Might have to buy some duct and an attachment but it will take out 90% of the dust.

That is a JOB man!! Took down front porch for similar reasons. Had to grind it down to the cement bottom. Bought two special blades, a grinder with a vacuum attachment, wore a mask, knee pads, cried alot, neighbors saw the noise, dust........... it was a big 8 hour shoulder and knee hurting job!! Wish you luck! Makes you wonder what the people were thinking when they installed their thing right? Or, maybe that's what the problem is...........they weren't thinking!!

Thanks, I was just thinking of a shop vac. But you sound experienced in this. Must be a better way to go.

You could build a temporary frame around it and fill it with clear epoxy. It will self level and look like glass when you're done. Just an idea. I had a friend do that with his bar top after he lined it with pennies. It looked great. 😬

I didnt know what you had. Shop vac would be fine. Unless its a huuuuge counter top and you are going big on the grinding. Then a proper vaccum setup would be smart. Also take a look at polishing wheels aswell as a concrete wheel. That will get you a nice finish.

Time for a remodel.
Counter tops at least.
Quartz is a good choice. Low maintenance and won't stain, unlike natural stone.
Concrete can make a surprisingly nice top if done right.
Don't screw around trying to fix someone else's mistake, at least in this case.
