I have hauled roughly 40-50 times since April 2022 with this great truck. Today I got it to squat pretty good. Adding on to our shed and needed the framing . The longest and heaviest were the structural 4x4x16. Helps to have so many tie downs.
Put it in tow, haul mode and it did great. Even the Menards guy at the yard stated you got it squatting. 😂
Next week will be a trailer for the sheeting and fiber concrete boards.
Such a great Truck!

I bought a 5x8 utility trailer with a ramp gate and 2x6 plank bed for $999 from Tractor supply. It was half the price of anywhere else.

With all that material sticking out behind the rear wheels it’s equivalent to more than 1300 lbs as far as squatting. Definitely not safe, if someone had run into those 4x4s, you would have been at fault even with the red flag.
Federal law for overhang is 3 feet in front and 4 feet in rear. With a 4 1/2 ft bed and approximate 1 1/2 ft tailgate those 4x4 were sticking out almost 10 ft.
This is good info that I didn't know. Making me second guess the utility of the Maverick compared to my existing SUV.

With the passenger seat down I can fit 10' of board inside the car. 12'ers only stick out 2' with the tailgate tied down to them. That and most of the weight then falls. Between the two axles instead of on the rear.

Making me wish the Maverick had a magic panel that opened to allow long stuff into the cab on passenger side.

I believe the DOT states a 4 foot minimum rear overhang. It is up to the states to determine the maximum of the allowable rear overhang. (which here in Texas is 4')

Question: Is the rear of the truck the end of the bed, the end of the lowered tailgate, or the end of bed extender?
It has to have a red flag if the load extends 4' past the rear lights of vehicle!

I think the Mav is a great little truck and I’ve only hauled anything over 12 foot long once in my lifetime. I once hauled 3 sections of 20 foot gas pipe home from local plumbing supply maybe 3 miles. What I did was slide it under my Dad’s old Dodge and strap it to front rear bumper. Only stuck out about 2 foot or so front and back as those old long wheel bases dodges were pretty long. On the Mav I wouldn’t go beyond 10 feet or 12 at most in the bed. Strapping underneath for a short trip not so sure as where to strap on front, back trailer hitch if equipped? On that rare occasion I’d probably just pay to have it delivered to the house.

Largest load in Texas 13 years ago. Houston to near Waco 10 miles per day. 520 tires!

I'd say that it's not often I push past 10', once every few years. However, it was super nice when doing my deck.

Outside of that the need arrives maybe twice a year. Odds and end repairs or furniture pickups on Facebook / craigslist.

It's nice to have a vehicle you can get a book case into, etc. In fairness the Maverick should do that better than the old SUV though with the tilted up bed and only 3' hanging out the back.

So far I’ve hauled about 12-14 bags of mulch, gas can for mower and a 7 foot bookcase home from flea market. Just raised tailgate and bungee corded the bookcase to tie downs. 75 miles home. It’s nice to be able to haul messy stuff home at 35-40mpg. Parking is a breeze and wife loves being able to get in and out with no pain to her arthritic knees and shoulders. She never wanted to climb in my F150 supercrew 4x4

that's a nice Maverick you got there. it's actually so nice that Ford themselves featured it in GSB 25-7042 as the example of squatting due to cargo being a non-warrantable condition for adaptive cruise control and pre-collision assist issues
Ford Maverick Squatting!!!!!!! 1747179804298-55

your truck has been immortalized in Ford's systems, and it will likely be there for a while. sorry to revive such an old thread, but i felt i just had to share this
