I installed my bed extender from my 2005 Sport Trac that I sold today.
Took maybe 5 minutes. Just tapped the lower mount holes for the Mount bolts.
The holes were already there as part of the "new" extender mount point.

Yep they took everything they learned from the old ranger and sport trac and mixed it onto the platform they had in their size range. Boom perfect truck for 2020s America. MPGs + basic capabilities.

Hello! Thats interesting bc i bought a sport trac bed extender and it doesnt quite fit for me. Its a tad loose and im not confident it would stay in place while driving. Did you use any particular mount hardware? In addition mine does not stay flush when folding back, it hits the wheel wells.

Mine is a gen 1(2001-2005.) Did you get a gen 2(2007-2010?)

I used the bolts for the sport Trac, similar to tailgate bolts.

Yes. If your going to use a tap don't drill it too large. One of mine is a bit loose if I take the extender off. I may eventually remove the tail lights and tighten a nut on the other side, like the new extender mounts are installed.

You could probably just screw then in without using a tap.

It is not loose at all when the extender is in place.

Did you just drill holes into the bed to attach those bolts?
Holes were already there for the newer extender mount. Just had to make them a little bigger and you use nuts on the other side if you want, I did not yet.

Alright, pic heavy. I did the process tonight, with my n.o.s. 1st gen Sport trac extender. As said, make the hole larger, I used the step bit. Taper the hole a little, it makes it easy to thread in the pivots. Again, i just threaded them in, they bite just fine. No issues with the ford tailgate shock, no issues with my bakflip g2 tonneau. I didnt drill the holes for the locks, I may in the future.

Brilliant idea, glad i could steal it.

Just picked up a Sport Trac bed extender real cheap. I have the spray in liner so I think my install will be a little more involved. Curious if the spring loaded locks on the extender have holes to fit into.

My Lariat has a spray in liner. No holes for the locks, you'd need to make those. I didn't.
