Holes were already there for the newer extender mount. Just had to make them a little bigger and you use nuts on the other side if you want, I did not yet.
Any idea roughly how much bigger you made the holes? I guess i'll measure the thread size when they get here.

@Gullzway or @Stroked - I am looking to get one of these bed extenders for my Maverick for cheap locally. I see some listings for "F-150 bed extenders 2001" that look identical to this. I am wondering if these are the same models as the Sport Trac Gen 1 bed extenders. Can you measure the width of your bed extenders from end to end? I am guessing they are 48"?

Thanks

I just did this and it's nowhere near as simple as people are making it seem here. Parts of it were a nightmare to deal with.

I found this exact bed extender years ago at a yard sale for $3, before I even knew what the Maverick was, I figured it might be useful some day. Well the day came that now I had a Maverick AND I needed to go pick up a massive dresser 2 hours away, so I got to work on installing it.

First of all, my extender looks exactly like the one pictured here, but mine had the model number yu5a-19g299-ba, which I've never seen anywhere and couldn't even find online, so just for future reference for anyone else that might have this model number, I can confirm it's the same thing and yes it works in the Maverick.

Also I needed to install this immediately so I ordered these Chinese knockoff pivot pins, which also came with covers for the top and bottom holes, which arrived overnight, and I can confirm these do work and seem to be good quality (although I'd always recommend getting OEM Ford parts if you can): https://a.co/d/02e4Igxn.

Next, there's absolutely no point tapping the hole because the metal is way too thin. You HAVE to put a nut on the back. You also need to drill the hole bigger than what would be required for that size bolt (m10) because if you "thread" the pins in, the threads will get gunked up with the bedliner (if you have spray in bed liner). I made the mistake of drilling a hole, threading the pins in because the hole was a tad too small, then had to back them out and re-thread them because they got gunked up and the nut wouldn't go on. Just make the hole big enough that you can barely push and pull the pin through the hole without twisting/threading it. I would recommend using a step bit and just keep going slowly till it's just barely big enough to push through.

The real pain is trying to stick your fingers through the little access holes behind the tail lights to hold the nut. This is damn near impossible. You have to literally hold the nut between your index and middle fingers like chopsticks and very carefully get it on the threads of the pin. If you drop it on the left side it will just fall straight to the ground. If you drop it on the right side, prepare for an hour long headache taking off the plastic liner underneath the truck to get the damn nut out. Also remember to put some red loctite on the threads before you do this and probably use a washer too.

Once you get the pins on, you might have to squeeze one side of the extender in just a tad to get the slot to drop down all the way onto the pin, but once it's on, it fits and rotates perfectly. I wouldn't bother drilling the additional top and bottom holes for those pins that push in and out to go in, it's just unnecessary. The extender can't come out unless you lift it straight up, it's not going to just fly off on the road

Does it matter if you use the gen 1 or gen 2 version of the bed extender ? Do both fit ?

Thanks.
