So I have a 2024 lariat with 18 inch wheels and a spare that’s only a 17 inch . The spare is a steel wheel but should the tire be an 18? So it matches the size if I need it? Or is Ford just giving me something to get by until I get the tire fix ? It’s kind of funny they advertised you get a full size tire, but it doesn’t match the one you have on the truck .

Full sized spare doesn't mean the same thing as it used to. Today it means its closer than a doughnut spare.

It's a spare, 17" will more than take care of you until repair of your normal tire and rim. I wouldn't worry at all.

225/60/R18 is pretty close to the same diameter as a 225/65/R17.

In days of old, full size spare meant a matching full-size, being the same size and matching the other 4 tires such that you could rotate in the spare onto the tires running on the ground. I think that ended in the late 70's or early 80's.

I can't remember the last time I needed to use my spare tire while on the road, away from home.

About once a year a flat tire shows up in the morning in my garage after picking up a nail. I don't bother putting on the spare or calling AAA. I just get out the jack and take the wheel to Discount Tire who plugs the hole for free or sells me a replacement tire if it can't be safely plugged.

Now, maybe I should go out to the garage and check the tire pressure in my spares just in case...

Our 22' Xl was ordered with and arrived with a full size spare, a 5th identical wheel tire set up. But no TPMS in the otherwise identical set up. That tripped an error code upon use and the manual reference states " take to dealer for service" so we did. $180 for the tpms install. I think Ford should have provided the TPMS in this case. Anyone ?

Been doing the same thing for decades! When it was convenient, I would just pull the tire, take to the local tire place, they would actually patch it from the inside and I am good to go. I too can't remember having to actually drive on a spare tire.
