I'm sure I saw somewhere in the OM that it is recomended that the spare tire winch is opereated periodically. Makes sense - you don't want to find it seized up when you need your spare.
I really don't want to unpack all the tools to do this, the illustration looks like it's a square drive on the toolkit tool, is there any chance that a 1/2" long extension would fit?

maybe a couple of them. I don't think 1 foot will be long enough.

I just used mine - it's easily 2 ft long. You spend more time unscrewing the bolt that holds the jack down, you're right you really don't want to unpack the tools to do it.

Oh, and pretty sure the square socket goes in the hole.

Here in salty NE Ohio I plan to lower the spare and spray the cable and winch yearly with Fluid Film or similar.
