Bought I’d give these a try instead of carrying chains.
They are pretty compact and light compared to cables.

Probably never need ‘em unless I find myself needing legal access to

a pass when chain laws are in effect.

Is this a real thing? It seems like they'd be a pain to put on.
If they're a legitimate product and you put them to use, you'll have to let us know how they worked for you.

From Consumer Reports test:

The good news is all three products offer added grip on snow. The bad news is installation can be tough, particularly when you factor in the cold. It is important that these be installed in a safe place away from traffic. In our experience, the "tire sock" products were a little easier to install than the Michelin Easy Grip, but all three are hard to pull over a tire. Each requires the tire to rotate periodically during installation to position the traction aids properly over the tire's tread. Consequently, this process is easier with an assistant.

If you need temporary traction to get out of a slick-wintry spot once in a great while, then these products might make sense as a part of a winter emergency kit in the trunk. For most snow-belt drivers, dedicated winter tires are more practical and versatile for the wide variety of wintry conditions.

Yes, a proven product, Europeans have been using them for years.

They are actually MUCH easier to put on than chains. Consumer Reports staff aren’t too savvy on a lot of things.

This brand is the original and comes in several sizes.

Like chains, they’re not meant to be run on bare pavement for extended periods. Unlike chains, they don’t need re-tightening after installation and can’t damage undercarriage.

Seen that.
The brand they were using aren’t very well designed .
The brand I bought are significantly better.

My winter kit.

BTW, if you don’t have a Snow Claw, get one. It will easily fit under your backseat. You can dig out a car very fast and easy with those. A Snow Claw and some cat litter works extremely well in most traction challenged/ stuck conditions.

Chains will destroy the car body pretty quick, this is much better in that regard

Yup.
Chains are old school. About the time you get them adjusted properly you don’t need them anymore. I really dont like using them.

Clip on traction shoes easily break, and don’t work all that well.

Traction aids should be ‘get em on, get em off’, as fast as possible.

DOT chain laws mostly care about vehicles be able to gain traction on inclines after stopping on a slippery surface. If you can’t get going again, traffic behind you stops.
