I always carry my keys in my pocket and the switchblade fob for my XL is a bit big. Are there any alternatives that still at least have lock buttons more like a traditional fob that I can get cut and program myself? If not I might even be willing to make due with a plain chip key since I can remote lock and unlock with the app.

You can get a chip key and have a locksmith cut the metal part. You can program the chip yourself, as long as you have both of the original keys that came with your truck. DIY programming is very easy.

The thread below by Redneck Garage has everything you need to know about spare keys, including links for spares - both fob & fobless (chip-only) keys.

FYI - Ordered a spare key. $15-$17 from Amazon. To find out some key shops will not cut the key if you did not buy it from them...there price is 2 to 3 times the Amazon price. The problem is when you take the spare key to a locksmith, most, 3 in a row, could not cut the key since it is longer than their key cutting machine....been chasing my tail trying to find a locksmith to cut the key.

Car keys are a friggin racket. I hate the big fobs and they are way too expensive. No reason why the keys couldn't be about the size of a house key, have the buttons on one side and the battery on the other and cost no more than $20.

Interesting topic. I personally lock my keys in my car and use the keypad.
