SERVICE ENGINE SOON WARNINGS

Noticed my check engine light was on today with the following codes displayed from my OBDII reader. Any idea why this is happening? Vehicle seems to be driving fine.

Codes:
P0073
U1027
U1028

2023 Ford Maverick XLT HYBRID with only 1,791 miles.

Any mods done that involved electrics? Something is not communicating properly somewhere for sure. Possible bad or no connection to a sensor. Is your HVAC working?

I usually start with the Google. This vehicle is under warranty. Make an appointment and get it into the dealership. Even if you knew what to repair or replace, why not get the warranty repair?

Helps to diagnose a code being thrown before you decide to drive it and so they may have an indication of where to look. Service engine soon warning can be a lot of things and if it's not safe to drive then you'd have to tow it. Either way, the first step is figuring out where to go before you get warranty work done. If it's a simple repair that can save you time and still be driven, some people might not want a dealership or shop to have their vehicle (for however long) and waste their time for a cheap part.

that’s why I start with the Google. My experience with the dealerships here, it’ll be a couple weeks before they can even get it in to evaluate. I generally don’t fret too much if the SES isn’t flashing. Maybe that just applies to GM, not sure. My commuter car threw 3 codes a couple weeks ago. I checked the codes and drove another 300 miles or so before I could get it repaired.

Have you been changing things in forescan on the truck? Try again or return to stock. If no, make appt with your dealer.

Simple Google search says:

P0073 Ford Code - Ambient Air Temperature Sensor Circuit 'A' High

Open in the signal circuit to the AAT sensor
Short to voltage in the signal circuit to the AAT sensor
Faulty AAT sensor
Failed PCM - unlikely

U1027 Code - Invalid Or Missing Data For Engine RPM
  • Faulty Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Control Module
  • Anti-Lock Brake System Control Module harness is open or shorted
  • Anti-Lock Brake System Control Module circuit poor electrical connection
U1028 Code - Invalid Or Missing Data For Primary Id
  • Faulty Module that is not communicating
  • Module harness is open or shorted
  • Module circuit poor electrical connection

Truck is completely stock, I have not done any physical or software modifications. I’m going to schedule an appointment with the dealer and go from there. This is my first Ford product and I thought it was going pretty well until today hahaha

Admittedly I am not experienced on this topic, but in a hybrid, can you clear the codes by disconnecting the 12V. battery for awhile, then reconnect and drive to see if the condition reoccurs? I'm wondering if it is related to all the rain we had here in SoCal?

Me: 24 hybrid, 1,900 trouble-free miles. My first-ever Ford.

Usually I am able to clear/erase the error code with my simple pocket OBDII scanner, however, my scanner is unable to clear the code in this Ford. Not sure if unplugging the battery would lead to more complications

Don't clear codes. They should clear themselves once the problem is solved.

Let us know what they say and what their solution is. Hopefully it's something simple like a sensor wire which from a quick search was what ended up being the issue for most of these codes on F150's and Mustangs.

I had a full on event with my hybrid the other day. Every warning under the sun. Zero engine, only electric to limp back into the driveway and eventually garage. After warming up from -20 (not even that cold tbh) and charging the low voltage battery, it seemed to be fine and CEL gone.

Looking in forscan there is over 15 DTCS, multiple in almost every module. Communication issues, drivetrain issues, engine issues, battery issues, you name it - collision, camera, hvac, data, the list goes on.

I will not clear it, the dealer can deal with it next recall letter (as I am a hybrid, you get a letter once a month it seems). It was just there for 2 full days for a bunch of recalls, including software, airbags, and harness/cable replacement.

I found this video on YouTube and I checked my ambient temperature sensor and indeed mine is broken for some reason I cannot explain. The vehicle has not been in a collision and front end is completely intact

That's the stuff I found on those codes too. Super weird. Most of the posts were in a confusion wondering how it happened. At least you know it's driveable and it should be a quick fix. I'd say it's worth taking it in and having them get the sensor for you but they shouldn't need to keep the truck. They might even have the correct sensor and be able to fix it on the spot.

*Edit, saw your other post in another thread. Take it to the dealer as they have to use FDRS to reset the outside air temperature sensor learned values. I'm not sure if you can get away with just driving on it and having it reset on it's own.
