I just happened upon this 4-yr old video about the fuel impact of auto start-stop. It sure seems like a good idea to just let it do its thing but I know there are aftermarket products built specifically to disable it every time the vehicle starts. I'm not clear what the reasoning is for wanting to disable this system all the time. Would be interested to know the thinking there.

I live in a rural area, sit in no traffic but do encounter stop lights and signs. Sitting with a dead engine when cars in my proximity are moving just doesn't "feel safe"

So keep an eye on surroundings and if something seems about to happen, start the engine back up.

I'm NOT familiar with how the Mav start/stop works but the F150 I rented you just let off the brake and it starts right up.

Personally when the engine is not running who's to say it will restart
and being a old man of 73 i have seen my share of engines not starting !

Yea, I've had cars I had to park on a hill so I could bump start them but modern GDI engines literally start 'first piston up' - the ECU 'remembers' where the crank stopped.

I get the concept of stop-start, but I hate it with a passion. As others have said, a "dead" engine is very disconcerting. I would not have bought this truck if I could not disable it.

Are dead engines a bigger problem with start-stop? I've read the system will probe battery voltage and oil temperature before engaging to make sure it's safe to stop the engine. It seems to me that if the vehicle starts from a cold engine without any difficulty, starting after an auto-stop event can only be easier. If the cold start was concerning though I'd definitely turn the system off for that trip.
