Route 66 Centennial 2026

My Dad drove Route 30 from western PA to Chicago, then took 66 to Santa Monica... in a Model A... in the middle of summer. The A was his brother's. Their destination was San Diego. The brother had enlisted in the Navy. It was 1938. My Dad joined in '39, did basic in Chicago, then boarded the Vincennes in VA. Survived its sinking at Guadalcanal (Savo Island).

I've not driven much of the surviving parts of old 66.

The tallest neon sign along Route 66 will have a “Lights On” ceremony on 4/11 in Bristow, Oklahoma. Last time it was lit was back in the 1950’s?

I was going to drive it in my motorhome dragging my Maverick lots of detours and low clearance bridges along the route so I don’t know if it will happen
