revisiting extended warranties

My main concern with a dealer purchased warranty or one the Grainger or another online warranty agent, is coverage.

I've spent many hours on this site trying to figure out what is best for me. My local dealer, when asked about the servicing of their policy compared to someone like Grainger will say something like "good luck trying to get 'them' to pay up.".

From what I have been able to understand (and thats not a lot) is that the Grainger warranty IS the same as the Ford warranty. Correct or not?

Correct that warranty must be honored at any Ford Service Center.

Correct. Your warranty is not with Grainger, it is with the Ford Motor company. The Ford warranty from Grainger is the same as the one your local dealer sells. It is honored by any Ford dealership in the United States. If you take your vehicle in for warranty work, the claim is not paid for by your dealer or Grainger. Ford Motor Company pays the dealer who performed the work.
With that said, I would suggest you contact Grainger or Ford directly for questions like these. Better to get your answer from the source for peace of mind. Good luck.

Your local dealer is lying out their a** to you and they know it. I would find another dealer to work with as a matter of principle. If they are willing to go this route on warranty I can only imagine what else they are up for. Having sold cars once upon a time, I can think of a few things.

The Ford warranty is a Ford warranty, no matter which Ford dealership you purchase it from. It just so happens Granger undercuts all of them.

Everything you all said is exactly what I figured. The main reason I am going with this particular dealer is they offer drive train warranty for life and 5 oil changes per year on new vehicles. Plus they are 5 miles from me. I pretty much assumed that they were upselling the same warranty I could get cheaper. The one mystery to me on all of the levels of the Ford warranty brochures is that theres not a lot of information regarding what is covered on hybrids.

Then just go with what you have in mind. But just be warned that it doesn't look like it is Ford Warranty, but rather some 3rd party used by the dealer. As long as the you are servicing at that dealership and the 3rd party pays for the warranty, then you are all good.

Do remember that it is probably won't be a Ford warranty, in another word, you can't use another Ford dealership for warranty service. And if they decided to deny your warranty service, good luck getting them to fix your truck.
