Did you ever get an answer to this?
Yea, it was $135 for the registration. So they see it as a sub 3700lb vehicle. I'm curious now if I have been overpaying on the registration for my Rav4.

I registered my Maverick yesterday and had to submit it as a 7000lb truck costing $161. I guess the MVA can't make up its mind on what it is 🤣

What?! Thats definitely not right, your invoice should list the shipping weight... I think mine did, which should be enough to prove its under 3700lbs.

Yeah they said the 3700lb limit is for cars and SUVs only (class A) . Pickups are another class of vehicle (class E) where the limit is 7000lb, so any pickup under 7000lb is registered as a 7000lb pickup, just like any car/SUV under 3700lb is registered as a -3700lb vehicle.

Confusing, but since I'm paying for the lowest weight class of a pickup I'm OK with it.

Huh interesting, I guess Chapman registered my Maverick as a multipurpose vehicle, not a truck. Wonder how Maryland defines a truck.
